Re: Led Constant Current driver help

Dale Y,<p>I saw that but I am not sure how that helps in my situation. When the transistor is on you say it shorts the cntrl/ref. circuit, the way I see it that would turn the current off. Not sure what i would be gaining?

Re: Led Constant Current driver help

Edd,<p> Thought about using relay, but had reliability issues. But I guess its better to KISS. I think I can get by with one DPST relay, one resistor, and 2 diodes. The resistor would be wired to the NC contacts to reduce current drive to the LED when park/running lights were selected. When Stop/Tur...

Led Constant Current driver help

I need some help in designing a circuit to add to constant current LED driver module available here. http://www.leddynamics.com/LuxDrive/Page_Buck.html I want to use a single 5 watt Luxeon Star LED as a tail/stop/turn signal. When the tail/running lights are turned on the output from the module woul...

Re: Need help with a simple transistor circuit

There are digital and analog transmission temp gauges available with switched outputs, the setpoints user defined. This output signal could trigger a relay to operate the fan. This might be an option instead of trying to interface with the oem sensor. Available from www.summitracing.com for approx. ...

Re: Fwd. Voltage drop across silicon diode

Thanks guys for your input. The diodes will be used in an automotive LED warning light application to prevent feedback.

Re: Fwd. Voltage drop across silicon diode

Is the voltage drop any more/less depending on current? Suppose you have a 50 volt 3 amp silicon diode that has 250 ma. thru the circuit, would the voltage drop be the same if 3 amps were thru the circuit?

Fwd. Voltage drop across silicon diode

Looked at a few datasheets on the 1N400X series of diodes but did not see any specs. on voltage drop. Is there a standard voltage drop across all silicon diodes and is the amount of the drop current dependent?

Re: Automotive dual battery question

Thanks guys for all the input. All of your responses make sense. On the F-rd Diesel truck forum that I belong to, an "Auto engineer" feels the pass. side cable is 2/0 becasue it carrying the full current load and the drivers side battery is only carrying approx. 1/2 the current.

Re: Automotive dual battery question

A little more information. According to the Service manual max. load of the starter is 2400 amps. I would assume that this is the starting surge amperage to get the starter spinning. One thing that I need to add is the 700 amps DOES NOT include the glow plug current draw which is over 100 amps or un...

Re: Automotive dual battery question

Chris Smith,<p> Not sure I follow you. The 2/0 cable to the starter is approx. 4' long. Are you saying that the wire size between the 2 batteries makse no difference and they will always share "equal current",ie, 350 amps?

Automotive dual battery question

I have a diesel pick-up with dual 750 CCA batteries wired in parallel. The passenger side battery has a 2/0 cable running directly to the starter. The drivers side battery is connected to the pass. battery thru a 5 foot length of 4 gauge wire. According to the shop manual, starting current can be as...

Re: WHITE LED FLASHLIGHT

Its pricy but here is a 1.2 watt plug and play Luxeon Star LED in a PR mount that will fit any flashlight that takes a PR type bulb with 1-6 cells. http://www.ledsupply.com/evflbu.html<p>[ December 18, 2003: Message edited by: Tparker ]</p>

Re: White LED strobe

I made a strobe flasher to alternately drive 2 LED arrays out of 3 555 timer chips. 2 of the chips are configured to run at approx. 8HZ and the third chip running at 1HZ (.5sec. on /.5 sec. off) controlls on/off of the first 2 chips. The third chip has the "diode mod" to run at a 50% duty ...

Re: Problem with motorhome lighting

The transistors are mounted on 2 seperate heat sinks that seem adequate. One transistor did show signs of high heat and its phenloic mounting socket came apart when I removed the transistor. I also noticed that no mica insulating "washers" were used and found no evidence of any heat sink c...
