Re: Lights of America does not play well with GFCI

Hi Ya Dac I may be way off base with this but my understanding is that some fluorescent lighting using the newer ballast designs that incorporate capacitors tend to trip GFIC outlets and breakers. The logic seems to be that at turn on instant the current in is not equal to the current out and that s...

Re: Florescant lights

Hi Ya Robert

Yes, you may want to give this a read as many flourescent lamps (and ballast) are targeted as well as incandescent lamps. Just remember the government always knows what is best. :)

Re: FLUKE METER Model 8060A True RMS Multimeter

Did you ever find another 8060A?

Something you can try since it is broken is open it up. The display on a 8060a uses a pressure pad. The display comes right out and the mating surface can be cleaned.

If you have not yet replaced the 8060 and that is what you really want let me know.

Re: Generator Question

Hi Ya Lemp http://www.bearblain.com/Gen.gif The attached image may or may not be of some help to you. Anyway the engine should governor at 3600 RPM so if possible and you have a counter you can try and measure the line frequency (through a small transformer) for 60 Hz. It sounds like the governor is...

Re: Hurricane Coming

While Cleveland, Ohio does not see hurricanes I would never go without a generator again. I love that thing. :) While hurricanes are not common place in NJ and NY I remember a few in the 50s. Candles were the light. Those and kerosene lamps. Just hang tight MrAl. On the bright side the hurricane is ...

Re: HERE YE! HERE YE! THE FORUM OVERHAUL IS COMING!

Hi Vern I believe what Mr. Al is getting at is that right now I can use the image tags much like you did in the example: [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/pGka4.png[/IMG] Where I am linking to an image elsewhere. Yes, people can use free image host and link to their image. However, I believe what Mr.Al is get...

Re: HERE YE! HERE YE! THE FORUM OVERHAUL IS COMING!

Hi Ya Vern That would be great as a complaint around here is the Magazine really seems to fail to promote the hell out of the forums. On another note it would be nice if our moderators had more latitude like the ability to ban an IP. I know MrAl works his butt off (as do you) with the spam influx. I...

Hi Ya Vern

Nice to see change on the horizon. Something that has my curiosity is what is the plan to promote? As can be seen it is pretty quiet around here.

Re: A/C compressor (auto)

our old car that we traveled across country had this big round tube that hung on the window, looked like a small turbine engine.. you filled with water and took off.. the wind spun the turbins and the air going by the water put out nice cool (wet) air.. worked great for its time.. we always got spr...

Re: Wire coating?

Hi Ya MrAl There is also a special tool made for removing the insulation coating from 'magnet' wire. It appears as a bunch of rotating razor blades with space in the center where you insert the end of the wire and it strips off the insulation without damaging the wire. I havent seen one of these thi...

Re: A/C compressor (auto)

Not that I can add anything constructive to this thread but what the hell. Years ago (about 25 years ago) my dad gave the wife and I a pretty minty 1978 Pontiac Bonneville Brougham. Unlike an earlier version of the same make and model I had owned this version was powered by the 301 cubic inch V8. Se...
