Re: 3000 watt inverter
I don't see how an 8AWG wire will limit current. The 2002 NEC lists the DC resistance at .76 to .8 ohms per kfoot. That would make 25 feet a resistor of about 0.00924 ohms. At 27 amps that would only be a voltage drop of 0.24948 in the wire.

Re: GE Motor wireing
I'd imagine this is a single phase motor, if there are markings on the leads like T(insert number here) then for low voltage (110): T1 & T5 & T3 = Line 1 T2 & T4 & T8 = Line 2 for high voltage (220) T1 = Line 1 T2 & T3 & T5 = Connect together T4 & T8 = Line 2 These are NE...

Re: Converting electric motor from 110 to 220
Open up the terminal box, and see if your leads are marked. If leads are marked T1,T2,T3,T4,T5,T8 it should be a NEMA motor,
then connect:
L1 - T1(P1 if thermal protected)
L2 - T4,T5(T8)
Join T2,T3,T8(T5)
T5 & T8 are the start windings and are swapped to change direction.
then connect:
L1 - T1(P1 if thermal protected)
L2 - T4,T5(T8)
Join T2,T3,T8(T5)
T5 & T8 are the start windings and are swapped to change direction.

Re: bandsaw blade welder (old one)
I might be able to find one, we have an old Peerless bandsaw with a Strycho welder on it, I'll have to see if we still have the schematic for it. I've fixed it a bunch of times but never needed the schematic, its biggest problem was the motor bushings were worn.

Re: Relay ladder logic program
I forget the name of the company now but you should be able to web search "The Constructor" It allows you to design and test ladder logic, I had a free demo version years ago and it wasn't too shabby then. I've heard its only gotten better.

//You might want to check to see if there is an absolutely, positively 100% solid ground connection between the engine/alternator frame and the chassis. And I don't mean with a ohm-meter. I mean by measuring the voltage between the alternator frame and the chassis of the vehicle while it's running a...

Re: Automotive dual battery question
I may be off base by not noticing, however I didn't notice anyone make mention that the current rating of a conductor is based on the highest temperature its insulation can withstand. The starting period is short enough that the cable's insulation would be able to withstand a substantial overload. T...

Re: Amps or watts?
The voltage rating is there to indicate the resulting arc that the fuse can safely interrupt. The higher the voltage the longer the fuse. Amps are amps no matter the voltage and its AMPS that blow fuses, else they would be rated in watts. More information on fuses can be found at www.bussmann.com/ <...

Re: generator head variable load
I initially thought of a variac connected to a surplus mill-type resistor, however that would be a huge resistor and variac to handle the full rated load of the generator. What is the input horsepower rating of the generator and how much do you want to load it? If your driving engine is small enough...
