Re: A little design help...
Hi there,
If i were doing that, i would get a fan that ran at 120vac and save a lot of headaches.
If you have surplus 12vdc fans laying around you want to use up, that's a different story.
Linear Technology makes software you can use to simulate your series choke + cap + half wave rectifier ci...

Re: Need Thermal Cutoff (Fuse) Source
Hello again,
Thanks for the interesting info Edd :-)
I have to deal with many fans, mostly in summer months, and they fail for a number of reasons including gumming up and also water damage. It's a big waste to keep buying new fans year after year, so im into fixing them up.
You are probably ...

Thanks for the replies, but...
I couldnt find any thermal cutoffs on the

Need Thermal Cutoff (Fuse) Source
Hello,
Anyone know where to get those small thermal cutoff fuses?
I need a specific rating: (2.5 amps, 115 deg C, 250vac) so those NTE types wont work. These go inside those box fans. The amp rating has to be 2.5 amps, not 2 amps and not 3 amps etc.
I found 2 amp devices and lower already, and...

Re: Power factor correcting capicitors?
Hello,
I have to agree with the other post that said you wont see any (or much) change in your electric bill by correcting the pf of any of your home appliances. If you had something that ran with a phase angle of 90 degrees you might see some savings if you corrected the pf, but even with pf corr...

Re: Keeping It Cool: Fans, Insulation, Peltier Cooling Modul
Hello there Wild,
It will be very hard to cool something inside of a hot environment like that, but if you could pipe the heat out of the larger box too, you would be way ahead of the game.
Is there any way that you can get the heat out of the larger box, like say, with duct work and a fan to pu...

Re: Purpose of Differential Encoding?
Hello there,
Sometimes the difference between successive samples is taken in order to provide a lower absolute value to the next stage of the process mainly because lower values require a lower number of bits after the next stage of encoding:
Eo(k)=Ei(k)-Ei(k-1)
This (or similar) is used as pa...

Re: another transformer question
Hello again,
If i understand your second question correctly, you are looking at the factor sqrt(3)=1.73 and trying to relate this to the full load power. The factor 1.73 is used to convert to/from line to line voltage and line to neutral voltage in a three phase Y system. The line to line (L-L) vo...

Re: another transformer question
H there,
To add to the other posts:
Some loads have pure reactance and so when you calculate the power in watts you get a total of zero watts, but you still have much current flowing that the transformer still has to be able to handle. This is why we need units of VA or something else suitable t...

Anybody interested in the LM432 ic chip?
Hello to all you fellow N&V members,
Im interested in purchasing a rather large quantity of LM432 ic chips, and since i dont need as many as the minimum required order, i was wondering if anyone else might want to purchase a few. This way i can get the 20 or so i need and sell off the remainin...

Re: LED operating point
Hi dacflyer,
The 1 watt and 5 watt LED's are made by Lumileds and are called "Luxeon Stars". They also make other LED's, but the best one for a flashlight is the LS/o, which stands for "Luxeon Star With Optics". The optic is a tiny lens that comes mounted over the LED.
I have...

Re: LED operating point
Hi Bank,
If you have a white 5mm Nichia or something like that, then i agree that 20 to 40ma is best.
If you have the advanced high power Luxeon Star then you have a different story: 1 watt Luxeon Star => 350ma (and about 3.3v) 5 watt Luxeon Star => 700ma (and about 6.8v)
The 5 watt model also...

Re: Parabolic Microphone
Hi there,
In addition to the other suggestions already given, you might try buying a cheap 6 volt lantern battery flashlight, and take out the reflector and use that. These are usually already in the shape of a paraboloid and should have a pretty tight focal point so would work pretty good for a s...
