Weird SMPS problem
I have a Zenith model VR4911 vcr that went dead. I found one dried electrolytic in the secondary circuit and replaced it. All other electrolytics were tested with a capacitance meter and tested good. I have successfully repaired many vcrs with dead smps in them merely by replacing open or leaky elec...

Photocell tube question
Hi, I am restoring a Victor Animatograph model 40BX 16mm projector. After fully restoring the amplifier I find out that the photocell tube is dead in this unit. It's a Lumotron type # 616 made by General Scientific Corporation. Does anyone know where one of these might be available? I cannot find an...

Re: Anyone familiar with 16mm projectors?
Hi, Thanks for your reply. The information was very helpful. The problem was caused by a shorted .01uf 400V tubular capacitor connected from the screen of the 6V6GT to ground.

Anyone familiar with 16mm projectors?
Hi, I have an RCA model 400 16mm projector. Everything works except the sound. The sound bulb does not light up and the 4 volts that powers it is missing. Following the wiring back to the chassis, the wires connects to a component that looks like an adjustable coil or transformer that was commonly s...

MPEG-4, DVB-S2 and fta
Hi, I am exploring the possibility of installing and receiving fta satellite tv. On the free channel list on lyngsat's website I noticed that some free channels such as NBC pacific, mountain, central and east on the AMC-18 satellite are labelled with mpeg-4 under the system encryption column and DVB...

Re: NEED HELP WITH MY 32 FLAT PANEL TV
If you are mechanically inclined, take it apart and check the power supply board for bad electrolytics; the bad ones usually have bulged ends; replace them and it should fix the problem. I have successfully repaired several flat screen sets this way. One set; a 46" plasma was only 13 months old...

Re: Car Antenna Impedance
I don't know the impedance of a whip antenna, but a longwire antenna on the AM broadcast band has an impedance of 500 ohms. You can start at 50 ohms, and if you don't get enough sensitivity, keep increasing the impedance until you get maximum sensitivity. Also, the lower end of the AM band is more i...

Re: Zenith TV question model # A36B86R (G2 Chassis)
You will need a remote to access the service menu. One common zenith method is press and hold the menu button on the remote until the menu disappears from the screen, then press "9 8 7 6 enter" in rapid succession and the service menu appears. See if this works on your set.

Re: Panasonic tv help...
Hi, Your flyback is definitely bad. At 85V you should have a decent picture with some shrinking from all 4 sides and reduced brightness; otherwise normal. I have troubleshooted many sets with suspect bad flybacks with a variac and have always gotten a picture at 80V if the flyback was good. Before i...

Re: Halogen Lamps
I believe I paid around $5 each for them. That was a few years ago. They were sold one bulb on a card. The generic ones were 2 per card and sold for around the same price per card which means half price. I believe the GE ones stated 2000 hours lifespan. I don't have any spares lying around to check.
