I don't work with motors often... it's been a while... but here's what I remember: The rotor inside an AC motor likes to see a rotating magnetic field to get it to start spinning and to keep it spinning. Think of it as a magnetic field that is spinning around the rotor. The magnetic field induces a ...

There are meters out there that can test capacitors. One of the cheap hand-held multimeters I have allows you to plug in the cap and it shows the value on the display. I guess you could make one of these if you researched it. Another way to test a cap to see if it has failed is by using a multimeter...

It also says it has memory length like 256 Bytes. What the hell is that? Sounds like if you're sampling at 1kS/s you would collect samples for 256ms. That is, you could see 1 period of a 3.9Hz waveform. I wrote this and didn't think about it. After I left the computer I realized that 3.9Hz is the s...

Sorry for not posting the specs. When I made this post I didn't have time to go into more detail. http://www.designnotes.com/downloads/Oscilloscopes_Cross_Reference.pdf http://www.designnotes.com/downloads/Manual_HPS40_10-UK.pdf It says max sample rate is 10MS/s and max bandwidth is 2MHz. Therefore,...

Have you used VELLEMAN HPS10 Digital O-scope?
Hi,
The above mentioned scope is a hand held.

I am thinking about buying it but before I do I was wondering if anyone out there has used it before. Is this product any good?

What's the difference between a PIC JDM programmer and a PIC ICD2 In circuit debugger? It seems the ICD can also program the chip. But I was looking at the ICD-2 on ebay (a knockoff) and could not see how the ICD board could hook up to the circuit under test. When I did this stuff years ago I used a...

After doing some reading from the links you guys provided, stamp's are not what I thought they were. It seems to be a PCB with some basic stuff like voltage regulator, xstal oscillator, etc... built up for you and has a flash PIC and they can be pretty pricy! Also, the programming seems to be a form...

How to get started with STAMP's and Microcontrollers ?
Hi All, I'm new to the board, but have been designing electronics for years. I'm also a subscriber to Nuts & Volts. Many years ago I did a project where I programmed a PIC16C63 Microcontroller. At the company we had a "PRO MATE" Chip programmer and we also had a development board - In ...
