Re: Making PCBs at Home
The Printed Full scale images can be used with the Photolithography methods. This works best with single sided PCB designs but can be used for 2 sided but I wouldn't attempt that without first making some single sided boards. Usually one obtains some Positive pre sensitized single sided copper clad ...

Re: CAD File Question
I looked a little deeper into this Autocad 2017 and later do have import paths but it is not fully automated and you still need to make a lot of choices along the way. Based on instructions I saw online, it may be more flexible than nanoCAD nanoCAD Pro version has Raster import with object recogniti...

Re: Problem with AccessHD DTA1080 DTV Converter Box
you mean the little converter they give you for old fashioned TVs. The audio is part of the RF signal sent to channel 3 and 4 so you need to use an RF to Video+R+L demodulator somewhere, I doubt you can hack the Comcast box, its probably all one chip. Searched on "RF demodulator" and found...

Re: CAD File Question
you can't do that. PDF was originally designed to thwart copying and editing. We can only grab text at all because the format is open source and OCR has been integrated but the image is no more useful than a photograph. There is no layer or dimensional content in a PDF. Even more complications creep...

Re: Isolate/split power supply
you don't need to break the circuit to monitor voltage, just attach the sense point and ground. Some of those little meters are powered from a separate supply and some are powered from the supply you are measuring. (3 and 2 wire respectively). Use 3 wire if the voltage might go below 2V or the meter...

Digikey is good if you can place the minimum order and not get overcharged. Just Avoid anything from china on ebay. not just bad electrolyte, there are all sorts of ways to shave costs on the raw materials and QA when bulk manufacturing. The component industry in CN is still suffering from these bad...

A localized low pressure area is also known as a partial vacuum thus the name is accurate.
Oddly, the "Vacuum effect" has to do with Cats for some reason

its a dr Seuss story about a place where a guy sells air, no trees either (that's the central plot BTW)

Re: Skycool
thinking the vacuum of space can draw air up a tube totally ignores the mass of the air in the tube wanting to stay closer to earth. It would be like expecting a hand dug open well to gush water like an artesian well. "Give it time,,, they'll find a way to charge us for the air we breath now......

Re: Paralleling circuit breakers
Sounds good, Fuses anywhere a hardware failure could cause high current. Breakers anywhere the load could overburden the source system, that's technically not a failure, more of an application problem. That addresses overcurrent, you should also monitor battery temperature if you want to maximize li...

Re: Paralleling circuit breakers
its always better to use one protection device, they aren't resistors and one should not design like they are in a resistive network. Breakers cannot be used in parallel unless the datasheet for it indicates that it is allowed. Placing them in series is no better than having only one. As you indicat...

were you sure they were not 4 layer boards (most were 2 layer but can't rule it out). Dummy transistors would still have raised their costs

Re: Linear power supply problems
I agree the OEM transformer should do its original job but it could have shorted secondary windings which would change its output characteristics. A failure of the full wave bridge such that it acted more like a half wave would allow it to seem to work but at reduced power and greater noise. But loo...

Re: 4V phone charger
you'll drive yourself crazy if the only thing you are observing is how long it takes to charge, you need to start measuring charge voltage and current directly to learn more about the relationship in the context of your phone and what critical cutoff points are if you try to make the voltage variabl...

I think you're going to have to attach your own wires to the header component, then you can insulate with heat shrink or hot glue
