Re: telephone via cable network
hi Philba
I don't think it's that complex. I think this can be done with simple frequency division. the voice is under 3k, the ethernet is 20M while the TV is above 50M, they are easy to devided.
accourding to abu's post, I think he did mean analog TV and phone, not digital signal
Mike

Re: "universal" remote USB device IC ?
there're countless uC in cypress and microchip has built-in USB, and they provide sample codes, programming is not a problem. some of these chips has built-in ADC, so you can do all the jobs you want to do with only one chip.
have a look at www.cypress.com and www.microchip.com
Mike

Re: Using this crystal with a PIC
It's an active oscillator, not a passive crystal. No external circuit needed to make it vibrating. Just connector pin 15 to osc1, osc2 left unconnected.
mike

Re: Event Per Hour
Mike
the easiest way is using binary counter such as 74hc393. use the output pins to drive some LED then you can know the number.
a more advanced design is using a uC to drive LCD or 7 segment LEDs. the programming is very easy, you can try it.
Mike
