Re: A Thought Experiment - Thermoelectrics and Cars
Try the same idea only passive... in effect, just replacing the rubber hose with copper would make the hose itself a more efective radiator of heat. Maybe the trick would be to add "fins" to the copper to make it an even better heat sink.
Who knows? you still have to get that heat from ...

Re: lightning strike
POTENTIAL is what attracts a strike, and a chimney, grounded or ungrounded has the same POTENTIAL. One way or another, the lightning will get to ground. A heavy guage wire connected to a good copper grounding rod allows the energy top get to ground with less collateral damage. As a US Coast Guard Ch...

hf = www.harborfreight.com
I have a couple of their cheapo meters and they work just fine when you don't need a lot of accuracy. Especially nice in field service where things are easily lost or damaged.
Tom

Re: Are most people here Electrical/Electronics engineers?
I am not an engineer by any stretch. After 22 years in Uncle Sam's green card travel club (USCG) I took a job in field service, working on security X-ray and metal detection equipment in airports, courthouses etc. I get lots of great info from this BB and appreciate the time and effort people put in...

Re: Black Box
Reminds me of an incident which occurred while I was in the US Coast Guard a few years ago. The 220 VAC shoretie coming aboard a new boat was miswired with the hull being "hot" and the ground wire going to the "hot" side of the on board AC power system. Turned a million+ dollar b...

I stand corrected. I need to read a little more carefully, I missed the low amperage of the solar panels.

Check out Electronic Goldmine's website. they list a 150W Solar Charger Control Unit - part number G12936 in their Cat 240 new arrivals. site is www.goldmine-elec.com. It should do the trick.

Re: car speakers pop when car turned off (amplified)
Hmmm.. Could be a bad idea, but if I'm not mistaken, solid state amps can handle a no load situation ok, it's tubes that don't like to be "unloaded". I s'pose if you were concerned about it, u could use the relay to swap to a dummy load, but I'm really not sure it's necessary.
