Re: VCR Drive Belt and Pulleys Get Slippery

Mr. Al... In one of my many incarnations I used to buy specialty chemicals from a company by the name of "VanWaters & Rogers". I'm sure that they would have an office that you would be able to purchase from. I sure that they would have 200 proof (medicinal) alcohol. They also have othe...

Good to see you again Bigglez. Never did know what happened. It doesn't sound like you are back 100% though. Hope you will eventually. It seems a shame with all the brain power we have here we(not meaning you in particular) could talk about stuff in the future before reaching critical mass. I wouldn...

Dacflyer: A good Belden or Alpha distributor would have the wire you are looking for. I do not know what big city you are close to, but I'm sure they would have a list of distributors in your vicinity on their web site. Any wire with a MIL-W16878 or MIL-W16878B would be good enough for any number of...

Peter... Yes I was refering to the arcane(?) system. Thank you for digging up that explanation of "2 phase" electricity. I was wondering how I was going to explain it. Arcane ? maybe. Up until some years ago there was a machine/metal fab shop in Oakland, CA that used motors that spun the s...

True 2-phase electricity requires that the neutral be twice as big as either one of the other conductors.
I was always taught that the european wire code used BlUe/PUrple as the neutral wire as it is usually the only other color that has a "U" in it as our ne"U"tral does.

http://www.postimage.org/aV1ieKo9.jpg Bear Without going thru a long story about my transaction w/Primecell , I was just wondering if anyone else has had trouble with them. I could not get them to reply to 3 e-mail messages or 1 phone call re the status of my batteries. Is my experience an aberrati...

Zotdoc: If the hole is a 1.25"sq. why do you need the locating tab?? An 1.25"sq. Greenlee punch should not be too expensive as opposed to going to a sheet metal shop & paying for layout, setup & run time. What I would do is: 1) buy the punch 2)buy a socket for square head bolts and...

We always used medicinal-grade chloroform to clean the idler and/or drive wheels or belts and capstan rollers and other mechanical parts. It left NO film whatsoever on the parts and cleaned off a lot of old crap. But that was back in the days before "controlled substances"(i.e. chloroform)...

cell phone antenna

My sister lives in Northern Ca. (Redding to be exact). Problem is that her cell phone reception is non-existent in her house which is surrounded by 60'-70' trees. If they want to use their cell phone they have to walk approx 200'-250' up the driveway to the highway to get reception. They have a 40' ...

Mr. Al: I agree with you 100%. If someone posts something with an ad attached you should have the ability to shitcan them immediately & block their e-mail address and/or their doman name. Do not waste your time splitting up messages & then deleting the ad. I do not know if spammers can know ...

Hello everyone! just a couple of comments. #1- yes the states are going lead-free. I work for a distributor of Belden wire & we will not be able to sell any wire that does not carry the ROHS symbol on the outside of the box. By 7-1-06 we will have approx 1 million feet of wire we will be unable ...

Re: Cat Heater

Jimandy: When we did cat rescue for feral cats, we used to get an enclosure like a dog house & hang a 60 watt light bulb in there. We would also place some old towels on the floor to make them comfortable. The light fixture had a aluminum reflector on it like the ones you can buy @ home Depot fo...
