Re: Switch mode power supply

If you only need the rated current output of the supply you are trying to use, there are switching regulator circuts available in texas instruments apps books that will do the job easily. The parts cost would probabaly be less then ten bucks

Re: inverter question

If that light can work on dc, you could operate it off a big cap while the invertor powers up if it was charged up and disconnected while the circut was turned off.

suzuki igniter

Hi I have an old carolina wetbike with a suzuki engine. It has no spark.I'm pretty sure the ignitor unit has failed.I ohmed out the two coils involved in the circut and they appear normal as well as the two spark coils. The system uses two coils sitting piggyback with the pole pieces in alignment wit...

Re: AC/DC converter, large power output

you plug the welder, which is a transformer into the output of the variac there are 220 volt variacs out there. there are also 110 volt welders out there. ten amps at 120 v == 100 a at 12 v.less effifiency loss of course.now on the other side if you connect to the output of the welder to the input o...

Re: AC/DC converter, large power output

i'm serious here, with all the shipping charges for these heavy transformers being a major cost consideration, i would consider lookin fer a used welder Ac being fine, and a ten amp variac.that would cost about 40-60 bucks.for the welder, and the variac maybe 50 or less if you look around a bit.Large...

Re: AC/DC converter, large power output

I can agree with a battery but for some reason on the more competetive auto boomers, the ultra high value caps seem to hava a fair amount of popularity. I guess if your gonna shoot top performance both a battery and a giant cap would be the choice.

Re: AC/DC converter, large power output

I have to admit three of those transformers would get you closer to 70 amps and a 1 farad cap may improve the bass response, but thats about 900 watts of continious power.I'd try two first and if not satisfied i'd add another along with more capacitance. Switching power supplies from chop shops woul...

Re: Ballistics Chronometer

ken; hi, by nv. i meant nuts and volts magazine.A flip flop is a basic memory device that changes state from on or hi to off or low when a pulse is delivered to it . To determine if the bullet is tripping the photo diode or transistor you can wire the sensor with a power source to the input of a fli...

sorry about being so harsh, but if you start getting into stuff that can be harmful to others you must remember the time old adage "a litle knowledge can be a dangerous thing" again,I apolagise.

Re: Ballistics Chronometer

so you want to build one? Ok the first thing you must do is get the projectile to trip a flip flop. I would starte by wiring a jk flip flop to toggle.A good referance to start with would be Forrest Mimm's handbook for engineers availabe through NV.Next I would wire up a photo diode in series with th...

Re: AC/DC converter, large power output

I think bg micro has a 12v 25 amp transformer for 20 or so bucksa. two of them paralled plus a 100 amp dide bridge with a .5 mf cap will do it.(don't short the leads)

I think you should stay away from any area of manufacturing that could possibly threaten a woman's health. Your lack of knowledge is apparent and could prove dangerous. You have no knowledge of possable toxic reactions to materials saftey or any other thing that I can percieve from any of your posti...
