Re: Capacitors
That's a C.A.P. not a capacitor. An electronic device. (C.A.P. propably stands for Capacitance Amplified Power) And, it appears Richard Clark didn't connect it properly. He said "no relays or fuses", which probably means the black wire in Figure 1 at www.alumapro.com/cap15dia.html was not ...

Re: Capacitors
Was that a "15 farad capacitor", or 15 uF (micro Farad capacitor?
I had a power supply with 150000uF (0.15 Farad) capacitor in it for the 5V supply. That cap was 3 inches in diameter and 8 inches tall. A 15 Farad cap would be 100 times the volume! It would fill the trunk of a car.
Ther...

Retired USAF Master Sargeant. I maintain a PBX for the A.F. in Izmir under contract with ITT.
So, it's second or third largest city. Both Izmir and Ankara growing, so I don't know which is larger at the moment.
Uh just about like Colorado, a bit wetter in central. They export a lot more agricult...

Re: eia-485 signal levels
monopolar-differential 3 Volts.
Differential is two wires (a pair) per signal. Neither wire is ground. (Sometimes an extra wire is run for a ground reference. Half-duplex one pair, full duplex two pairs.) When one wire goes down, the other goes up.
Monopolar is all voltages on same side of groun...

Bob Scott, Is there a fairly big mountain, or something due West? I'm thinking the bounce path is stronger than the straight the path.

Re: Transistorized water flow?
Have you considered a weight or spring to turn water off; and motor, muscle wire, whatever to turn water on? That way water isn't full on during a power outage.
A self-heated thermistor is another way to measure water level. Put enough current thru it so it's body gets to, say, 110ºF in air with a...

Re: X10 Fluorescent light Switch
But Jolly Roger wants a wall switch for built-in wiring. The modules plug in to an outlet for corded devices.

$112 is actually a price for fluorescent switching X-10, but I like Chris' idea.

Re: Laser Alarm
The original circuit also has the error. The 1K resistor should be from Reset (pin 4), to the "5V to 15V" supply line.
When Reset is held low (ground) by the blue wire the 555 is stopped and no sound is made. When the blue wire is broken the 1K resistor "pulls" the Reset pin to...

Re: DC-AC converter
With your 2A transformer, a pair of VMJ15003s will more than do. The very smallest TO-3 heatsink will be okay. Maybe none, because they'll each be dropping about 1W.

Re: Laser Alarm
Michael Wahid said laser pointer, so it is a laser. He didn't answer Edd's question about color, but it's probably not IR (people can't see IR, it would be a terrible pointer :) ). So probably red or green. Smart bets are on red.
Photo resistors, I believe, are more sensitive to IR. Red should be ...

Re: DC-AC converter
At start-up and stall the resistance of a motor is only the copper wire of the winding. Nearly a dead short!
When stopping, any inductive load (like a motor) the current keeps flowing to dicipate the magnetic field. If the resistance is very high (like open switch or OFF transistor), the voltage i...

"how much does the circuit draw? because i have soem 2n3904 transistors, which are NPN but are also very low powered. will they work?"
You said you have a 12V, 2A transformer. I said you'll get less than 24W max out. That's feeding 2A thru the 12V side.
A 2N3904 has an Ic max of 200mA....

Re: Charging 12V Battery while riding Bicycle
(based on a weak memory from late '60's) The light set on my bike had a three position switch. On battery (2 Ds), Off, and On generator. Rewiring so light would be on from generator while moving, and stay on from batteries at stops without switching, ate batteries and gave dim light while moving.
...
