Re: Equalizer

Hi Mike.
Assuming that when the switch is off, the switch bypasses the equalizer circuit and directly connects the inputs to the outputs. Here is another possibility: You may have the input and output wires reversed. This will also give you sound only when the switch is off
Bob

Re: Monitor temps

Frank,
Yes there is an off-the-shelf solution. We use a device called a Watlow Anafaze in our ESS (Environmental Stress Screening) lab. It has facilities for recording the output of 32 J-type thermocouples over just about any time period. The thermocouples are inexpensive easy to place "peel-...

Re: Off topic- bytes per allocation unit

Hi Externet,
It's been a few years since I knew this stuff like the back of my hand. We'll ignore FAT12, the ancient FAT (File Allocation Table) type of filing system designed before hard drives. The number of bytes per allocation unit is determined by the maximum number of allocation units availa...

Re: Looking For Cheap Crossover w/o any coils

Mike,
To answer your question, the simplest cheapest "crossover circuit" used by cheap speaker manufacturers for two way loudspeakers is this: Simply wire the amplifier directly to the woofer. The woofer does not respond very well to high frequencies, so there is a natural mechanical rol...

Re: Looking For Cheap Crossover w/o any coils

Never insert a resistor in series with a loudspeaker. You lose a great deal of the amplifier's damping factor. The speaker will tend to flop aroung a lot more at resonances of the speaker and the box. Bass will sound a lot less tight (ie: flabbier, boomier).
Bob ;)

Re: Are most people here Electrical/Electronics engineers?

Hi Guys,
My background has been in electronics for the last 33 years, even though I do not have a technical diploma. I started out as a technician for an electronics retail store back Winnipeg in 1970. I worked my way up through industrial electronic maintenance (early Sony reel-to-reel VTRs) whic...

Re: LM380N-ND ? guitarist ?

Gee Edd,
I haven't used those old LM386's since the early '90s. ;) I seem to remember the LM386 as available in a TO-220 package back then, or is my memory deceiving me? I can only find them in DIP packages these days.
Bob

Re: High Voltage

Ignition coils are available in two different varieties. One kind has a resistor built into the primary to limit the current. The other type requires an external resistor. Either type is available at auto parts stores. They look identical.
Bob

Re: Microphones

Hmm. So far for two lead microphones we have piezo and electret condenser. Electrets are also (and mostly) available as 3 lead mics. All other kinds are 2 lead, at least their pickups are. Other 2 lead pickups include carbon mics, used in old telephones and dynamic mics which are electromagnetic, li...
