Re: Morning musings
Looks to me like the oscillator part matches the circuit on pgs. 272- 273 Don Lancaster's CMOS Cookbook (2nd edition). He has a good description of it's operation.

How's this for an about face.
The teacher monitors this forum, selects one or more challenging topics, and, as homework, assigns the student to write a post on the subject. Then we (heh heh) will give the student a grade!

I checked out the URL and noted that the writer said the PS needed a load to turn on. I'n no expert on switching PS's (or anything else for that matter) but when the web author further stated
quote:
I cut...

Till I recently joined this forum had never heard of a "pellet stove". 'Cept I once read somewhere that cowboys out on the range burned buffalo "pellets" to cook their food and for warmth at night..

Re: electronics knowlege at BSEE level
For a quick test on the digital side I would have the candidate write out the truth tables for the primary logic units: "and", "or", "xor". If he (she) doesn't understand truth tables they'll have serious problems in digital design,

Re: Delco Truck Radio
Actually, using Sterling's suggestion, you might pull fuses one at a time and measure with the ammeter across their open terminals to isolate the guilty circuit (the one drawing the most current). But I'm not sure what else that is normally fused, other than the radio's clock, would be drawing curre...

Re: Delco Truck Radio
Are you sure it's the clock display? Several things usually run all the time in most vehicles but draw very little current, and the battery should hold them up for weeks. Have you tried disconnecting the radio to see if it's the problem? (EZ way to do that - pull the fuse).

Re: Zener Ckt HELP
Here’s a naive comment on my part, but perhaps worth considering in the design criteria.
If the mic requires power it most likely is a “condenser” mic and, besides powering a small internal amp, the source is used as a potential across elements of a capacitor which when vibrated by sound pressure ...

Re: ground isolation problem
Did you try reversing the leads one side of the transformer? Maybe it's some kind of phantom phase coupling problem. Of course I don't have the slightest idea what I'm talking about.
