Thanks guys! btw, I checked with a friend, and the MAX232 thing should work - I'll try that. I'm having a bit of trouble with the permissions settings on my school's server, so I can't post pictures right now, but connecting to it shouldn't be a problem. the LCD is inside a metal shell, with a plast...

LCD Goodness
So... my friend and I (1st year EE students) got wind of Goldmine Electronics' sweet deals recently, and decided to order some loot. I seriously love surplus dealers... the whole mentality of "we have no clue what this is, or what it does, but we'll give it to you for $3 instead of $100 if you ...

Hi, The PICKit2 has a header facing outwards from the end. It may often be easiest to use a right-angle header on the board, so it can stick out of the side of the case, rather than requiring disassembly. I would note that the PICKit2 (with the latest firmware, anyways) supports a fair few PIC24s, a...

The best way to check this is with the old fashion iron filings on a sheet of paper experiment. The density of the iron filings is proportional to the magnitude of the field. Direction can be determined by the way the filings stand up. If you don't have a supply of filings on hand, they can easily ...

yeah... a friend bought me that, and it was indeed junk - which was sad, because had it been better made, it would have been pretty sweet. Alas, the folly of buying As Seen On TV products... I think the stores must know they're junk, because after the first one broke (well out of warranty) I took it...

the Big Red Button
Hey all,
does anyone know what manufacturers make Big Red Buttons? e.g. the stereotypical button that destroys whatever needs to blown up in that particular movie, etc.
I've always wanted one for dramatic effect, but I can't seem to find that type of button anywhere...

It would be advisable to identify the tag, or you'd have other people's pets in your house all the time. (!) Also, although I don't know much about RFID, I would think it might be easier to read the tag then to just check if one is nearby. At any rate, since it's called RF ID , you would probably be...
