Re: Monitoring for when a pump is running

CeaSaR has it- an AC current clamp in the house to monitor current to the pump. That could go to an Arduino with SD card to log pump activity. Or, depending on your programming expertise, alert you when the pump has been off or on for too long. As for an alert when the tank gets too full, many "...

Just saw this:

Might want to contact local colleges/universities for collaboration in developing your devices. Grad students are always on the lookout for projects, and these days, what you're doing is a hot topic. Good luck!

Re: Superduper capacitor substitute for battery

Power X Time is energy, so 1.3 AH X 2.5 volts X 1800 seconds = 5850 joules (or watt-seconds) (From the battery)

Energy stored in a capacitor is 1/2CVsquared, so, 1/2 X 1875 Farads X 2.5volts squared = 5859 joules (or watt-seconds) (From the capacitor)
Close enough!

Re: Superduper capacitor substitute for battery

OK, I see that now, even though we know 2.6 amps for 30 minutes from a AA is pushing reality.
Time would be 30 mins X 60 secs/min = 1800 seconds.

C = T/R, so with a time of 1800, and an R of 0.96 ohm- 1800/.96 = 1875 Farads

So, who has that capacity for us to try it?

Re: UVC Testing - Willing to pay!

Optical bandpass filters are available which only allow the UVC to pass through- similar to what Big Clive uses as a piece of glass, but bandwidth-accurate. Only guessing what wavelengths are getting through his glass plate. Are you attempting to test a finished product, or just UVC LED's? You need ...

Re: Superduper capacitor substitute for battery

I can't see where the OP expressed the current demand of said bulb. Is it a small LED? Incandescent?

How about getting one of these "UVI" detectors- https://www.ebay.com/i/224004559118?rt=nc&_trkparms=aid%3D1110001%26algo%3DSPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20160908110712%26meid%3D6a7ad0fc42a2490489cd50c0aadda2ed%26pid%3D100677%26rk%3D13%26rkt%3D30%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D153696105907%26itm%3...

Green wire

Maybe too much time on my hands, but.....
In house wiring, why is the Green wire usually the same gauge as the current-carrying wires?
The green should never have current, right? So why don't they save copper and make it a smaller gauge?

Cool! But no audio to the TV, right? Audio stays on your device, i.e., phone, iPad, etc.?

Re: Wood, some of the best stuff for music

Very cool! Often thought of sticking a couple of probes in a tree to "listen" in on impulses that surely exist. Or ground probes.
Anybody ever try that?

Re: Citizens band (CB) Radio: Who still uses it?

In the late 60's, I spent a good piece of a paycheck on two 1-watt handheld, 2 channels CB walkies. Got over 3 miles range in the almost-noise-free environment of southeast Asia. Got a half-mile in western New York due to the heavy electrical traffic. That with a 4 foot long telescoping antenna. Goo...
