Re: Inductors for Receiver

I did a search on Alltronics, All Electroncis, Parts Express, and GOOGLE. The first two I came up with nothing that met my needs. Parts Express came up with the audio amp device. Google even came back with the audio type. I must have done something wrong at Mouser the first time around as they only ...

Re: Inductors for Receiver

I am missing something. Both of you note that these can be found for pennies (which I thought should be the case). When I searched different sites (Parts Express for example) I came up with devices meant for a speaker or amplifier (cost $13 to $40). Digikey had devices in the 10uH but I didn't find ...

Re: LED Outdoors

No problem using and LED outside unless the circuit gets wet. I have numerous solar powered yard lights with LEDs and most still work; some are almost ten years old now. (The NiCad batteries have been replaced at least once.) The ones that don't work were the ones that got wet and the circuit boards...

Inductors for Receiver

It has been a while since I've had to wind a coil for a receiver project. I want to build a low frequency receiver and found a schematic I want to use. It requires a 10mH and 1mH coil so I figured I'd wind my own. The calculator web pages keep coming back with coils needing to be up to one pound in ...

Re: AC Power Pack for Cordless Power Tools

I used a high powered laptop "brick" power supply. Gutted the batteries out (most), ran power supply connections to battery OUT terminals. Not as powerful as batteries but it works. I say most as "stem" that goes into the drill had the contacts on a battery up inside it and that ...

Re: Automotive back-up alarm circuit

If you are building one so you have a project to build fine. But they sell backup alarms in most auto parts stores or department stores in the automotive section. They are under $15 in most cases and can be had for about $3 on the low end. There is one type that replaces the backup lamp with a diffe...

Is this your device:

If so it appears to follow the x10 standard. x10 in the US uses 310 MHz and the UK uses 433 MHz.

Re: Recomendations for a new Flat Screen Television?

You want LED backlit LCD TV. I preferred Sony when they made CRT (Trinitron) but I don't like their LCDs. LG are okay but in my opinion the Samsung are some of the best looking of the ones I've done side by side comparison. You WILL pay more for an LED TV than a CFL. I've seen some TVs specification...

It was NOT my recommendation to skip the degree! I'm saying GET the degree but as you are getting it you need to obtain certifications as well.

Re: [OT] Career advice

jollyrgr, are you saying skip the BS and go straight for the certs? Or does your employer require both? If no BS prerequisite for a job or the certification courses than clearly the certifications are a much faster path to a paying job than a BS. I suppose the job outlook is still good for those wh...

Re: satalite radio question

Hacklesup brings up an important point about satellite location. GPS satellites are in orbital planes with a orbital period of about 12 hours. There is a constellation of 24 to 32 GPS satellites at any one time. (I believe there are currently 31 actively broadcasting GPS satellites with two retired ...

Re: satalite radio question

The terrestrial signal strength refers to the satellite repeaters found in big cities or "Urban Canyons". You can find maps of Sirius repeaters on websites. I found this one: http://www.dogstarradio.com/sirius_map.php According to the above site the following cities have such repeaters: Lo...

Re: Barking dog deterrent

Tweeter that has a range beyond 20kHz. A 555 timer producing square wave with a 9V output.

This will not fix the problem but it will annoy the dog. I "may" have done this some years ago.
