Re: emachines computers
Not a bad system at all for the buck. Not a speed demon but for the buck this one is a good deal. I assume the user just plans basic task like Internet browsing and basic task it will do fine. Keep in mind it is not a machine designed for extreme gaming. I like the fact it has a 64 bit version of Wi...

Re: Best way to make very large hole in cabinet
To my way of thinking I believe this was the best part: Yes, this hole gave me a little experience in making these fan holes in PC cases with what i had on hand. Like you had the objective and kept thinking about your available assets. Then after kicking around ideas made a decision and moved on it....

Well that's it. You are now MrAl the Case Modder! Congrats on that MrAl as it looks like things went well with the project.

Re: Oreck Vacuum Cleaner
My mother had a used boat anchor Electrolux along with 4 children. When the thing was full you placed newspapers on the floor and dumped the bag content into the newspapers and trashed the dirt. I guess it worked just fine because I turn 60 in a few weeks and I have two sisters and a brother that su...

Re: Best way to make very large hole in cabinet
Hi Ya MrAl Nope, I don't think it is worth doing all that. My gist was that if you have open grill in the front of the drives allowing air in over the drives that with good exhaust the drives should have plenty of airflow over them. A system with good exhaust will be drawing air in the front. That a...

Re: What Should I Do With This Microwave Oven?
Since everything works with the exception of the buzzer I would venture a guess that only the little buzzer has failed or possibly a victim of a poor solder joint that has failed. Buzzers of that type can be had pretty easily. Personally I would first remove the element and place a small voltage acr...

Re: Best way to make very large hole in cabinet
MrAl Generally most cases have open grill ventilation forward of the HDDs in front of the case. Many even allow for the addition of a fan forward of the hard drives. I assume that isn't the case with your case configuration. I just cleaned the filters on the wife's system and though there is a provi...

Re: Best way to make very large hole in cabinet
I have to agree with Robert that using a saber saw, jig saw or whatever is likely the best way to go. A hole saw with a 3" diameter would work fine for an 80mm fan but as you get into a 120mm or larger fan the hole saws are expensive. Three inch and under are pretty cheap but when you start get...

Re: Really Fast Scanner?
I should have covered Infranview. I used it because it is fairly common and free. Rather than use a paid software I figured it was good to use for an example. My bad for not explaining or linking to it.

Re: Really Fast Scanner?
I tried an experiment with my scanner (old Canon 8400F). I opened the CanoScan toolbox and chose Scan-1. Source: Platen Scan Mode: Grey Scale Image Quality: 300 DPI Page Size: Letter Gave it a file name etc. and scanned into Infranview as a program. I scanned a B&W page of text. The background w...

Re: Circuit for one input - multiple outputs
You want to have your circuit something like this: http://www.bearblain.com/4017.gif There are no shortage of circuits out there for the old 4017 decade counter divider as you have discovered. The drawing was a quickie but here is how it works. Each pulse in from your receiver will increment the cou...

Re: Circuit for one input - multiple outputs
Hi Ya BLW I would just run with a 4017 counter chip. Small and cheap. Later today when I get home I'll post a basic circuit for you. Each pulse from your receiver to the clock input will increment the counter up one count and you have 0 through 9 (10 counts total) if you added a second 4017 you coul...

Re: Circuit for one input - multiple outputs
Welcome to the N&V Forums! If I understand you correctly the easiest way to go about this would be with a micro controller. I assume each time you press a button on your transmitter it transmits a pulse for the duration of the button held to the receiver which outputs a high level (5 volts) for...

Re: battery over temp alarm
 LOL, I think we need to define "very warm" as in assign it a numeric value of sorts. Newer laptop batteries over the past several years have become very smart. They use a chip and transmit over two wire the batteries temperature, voltage, charge status (and control charge rates) an...
