Re: is everyone on vacation ?? no activity here since the 19

I have not read it in about 6 months. My subscription expired and I didn't renew - although I did debate it. I remember that I never liked the smiley articles. Just didn't like the guy's style. I did like Fred Eady (probably misspelled his name) - he is a good author and I liked his subject matter. ...

Re: is everyone on vacation ?? no activity here since the 19

I check in once in a while, too. Just not a whole lot up here to check in for. It used to be bustling with activity. And no - I am no longer a N&V subscriber. The mag got a whole lot thinner and its pages were (are) full of mostly stuff that I didn't read. One article per issue that I would actu...

Re: PCB Layout Software

It sounds like a load of fun (and a bunch of free goodies). I am taking two summer classes and one of them is taught by a teacher who will have no problem if I miss a day for that. I will have to think a lot about going. It will take me 3 hours (at least) each way to get there but like I said I have...

Re: PCB Layout Software

I want to go to ESC Chicago so bad... Unfortunately it falls in the first week of the summer semester  I did sign up for a free expo pass and I hope I can actually go but I highly doubt I will (just like last year). Can you elaborate on what freebies (dev kits) they had there? What companies we...

Re: to project or not to project....

when programming a microcontroller seems hard to you, it maybe is because of the fact that MPlab (for PICs of course) normally can only be programmed in Assembly. Which is relatively hard to learn. Not at all true... You can most certainly use C compilers and also PicBasic from within MPLAB. Howeve...

Re: to project or not to project....

Which language are you using? Something tells me that you are trying to use Assembler language. If I were you I would use a high level language for everything I could. I don't know which PIC you are using but you might look into C. Granted it is not the easiest high level language to use, but it is ...

Re: letters and numbers purpose?

Some sites have them enabled for your first xx posts (15, or whatever). Others are more careful. My thinking is that if a bot hacks into someones account, the capcha will still prevent them from posting. I cant think of anything else because having them always enabled is a major pain in the rump... ...

Re: getting no where with pickit3

Sorry for the slow response - I am bogged down with homework :( Anyway, you should be able to find asm code that will blink an LED for the part you have. Have you been in MPLAB and set the programmer to PicKit3 and see the device connected? If you set the programmer to PicKit3 (in MPLAB), it will lo...

Re: getting no where with pickit3

You have the PicKit 3 and a board (which board?). You have either a compiler or assembler (assembler comes with MPLAB - you DO have MPLAB, don't you?). If you got a board in a bundle with the PicKit 3, there are probably some samples around somewhere. What device are you using (the PIC itself)? If y...

Re: letters and numbers purpose?

Sometimes sites will ask a question, too. Not a question that a bot could easily answer. Something like 'What letter does football start with?" That way a bot would not (theoretically, anyway) be able to create accounts and spam a forum.

Hope it helps,
Kevin

Re: Windows 7 RAM Problem

I like that idea very much, why dont you PM Mike and tell him? That would be a waste of time. I hardly ever come here now because of the spam - and lack of traffic, presumably due to others leaving because of the spam. There have been NUMEROUS things that have been suggested and they have all falle...
