Re: Help with dialectric grease and similar products
I'd run a proper separate ground wire from the lights to a proper ground terminal. If I recall correctly I was advised against this by Bigglez way back when I was wiring these lights. And even with this extra rust-proofing it has been less work overall, I've avoided drilling extra holes and avoided...

Re: Electricity Usage Monitor
I am saddened Bigglez that you are not considering building either of the consumption meters in the app notes on the Microchip or Texas Instruments website or the note from the Allegro power interface chip! Actually, I've been over those app notes several times, and considered rolling my own energy...

Re: Electricity Usage Monitor
The local rates are high by national standards, and higher consumption begets higher rates - the opposite of "volume discount" We have a volume penalty too. Any extra power is billed at C$ 0.07/KWH (~US$ 0.056/KWH). Our gas is cheaper in energy content than electricity, ~US$ 9.33/million ...

Re: Electricity Usage Monitor
I've used the P4400, not sure what the difference is to the p4460 except the obvious new case. Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I'll know more after buying and using one for a while. BTW, it resets to 0 when unplugged. 1. When power to the Kill A Watt™ EZ is interrupted, the display will go blan...

Re: Trying to read PM on new forum
my guess is he deleted it after sending it, before you read it. i THINK it works like this: When you send a PM in phpBB it dosent work like email where you send it and thats that. It puts it in your outbox , and waits for the person to read it. When they read it it moves it to your sent messages . ...

Re: Help with dialectric grease and similar products
I need some sort of grease/paste/putty/sealant to seal up the bare metal that is grounding my rollbar lights on my pickup. An RTV compound (also called caulk or silicone rubber) would be ideal. It will flex with your truck's chassis and remain watertight. The exterior versions are also UV resistant...

Re: Sharp Microwave LCD Backlight problem
The led backlight is out for the LCD display. All three surface mount leds are good - no power to them. Expect the LEDs to be series connected with a resistor. In a series circuit any failure will stop the entire chain, even poor or broken contacts and connectors. There are two digital transistors ...

Re: PC power supply - what's missing?
Aside from saving the manufacturer a few cents per unit, was there a valid reason for eliminating these parts? Nope. Just a way to lower costs in a very tough market. Assuming I can get a supply to work again, would it be worthwhile to install some of these parts to prevent a repeat failure? Your t...

Re: How to sense over/under frequency ?
Hi all. Am installing a different engine, not computer controlled in my car and the transmission torque converter wants 12 V only above 45MPH. ... Let's say 45MPH is 35 Hz. I want a "high" signal above 35Hz; "low" signal under 35Hz Instead of measuring the frequency, measure the...

Re: How to sense over/under frequency ?
Let's say 45MPH is 35 Hz. I want a "high" signal above 35Hz; "low" signal under 35Hz You might run your calculations again (using your actual data for rim size and tyre size). 35Hz is very high for normal highway speeds. Here's a handy on-line calulator. Where is the speed trans...

Re: Solved a network problem "a" and caused "b"?
You are essentially correct in how you're differentiating routers from switches. ... Routers often come with "filters" that deal with packets based on their content. So called 'firewall'. right? My motivation to change the old router to a router/firewall was to off-load the protection to ...

Re: SDHC Card failure
Yes, the protection switch is on. The card cannot be identified by any computer or camera. The card is nearly nes and there is no damage to the finger contacts. I really think the card was electrically damaged in the kiosk since the images could be read by the camera just before trying the kiosk. T...
