Re: physics ?

I think this is not so hypothetical as you thought when you wrote it. In real life this happens all the time. Meteors (A.K.A. shooting stars) vaporize (burn up) before impacting the chamber (earth) all the time.

Re: My Kenwood TS440S diode source

Just wanted to say thanks.
RonH - Yes I have been on the Yahoo group. They have been very helpful. However, thanks for posting the info.
Sundancer - Thanks again, those guys only want 50 cents Canadian for a NTE cross to another one of the recommended diodes....might go that route if it comes t...

Re: Need to isolate and identify multiple tones. DSP?

I dunno if the PIC is fast enough, but you can do what you want in software. Pardon my French, but what you want is a Fast Fourier Transform aka FFT or one of its faster cousins (whose names I forget... DFT maybe?). DSPs are designed with this guy in mind. These algoritms do exactly what you want, d...

Re: Anybody have experience with MFJ equipment?

IMHO most everything MFJ makes is crappola. Thats a technical term. Others may disagree, I dunno. I suggest going to a hamfest, someone will be peddling MFJ stuff. See it for yourself. If your not getting QST yet, lemme know what State your in, assuming you're in a State, and I'll tell you where the...

Re: Need help w/ RFI

It sounds like the cable in question is fine, since you don't say that it doesn't also transmit the sound you want from the computer to the amplifier. Nevertheless, it is acting like an antenna. You have a couple of things to try.
1. Actually use the third wire ground on all the devices in the sy...

Re: My Kenwood TS440S diode source

Thanks for the cross reference.
It's my experiance that distributors don't like to deal in small quantities, and Digikey and Mouser don't carry any of the parts I listed. I will check to see if they have the NTE part.
In case they don't, can you suggest someone that will sell me 20 or 30 of th...

My Kenwood TS440S diode source

My Kenwood TS440S is beginning to present symptoms (frequency drift and intermittent dots in the display) of PLL unlock. Service Bulletins at Kenwood.net suggest that replacing a fist full of diodes with new diodes of any of these types : 1S2588,1SS91S, BA282 will cure the problem. Additionally, I h...
