Dean,
I learned a long time ago that one sign of maturity is when you learn that ..
"Just because you can do it is not always sufficient reason to do it".

What solvent do you use in the tank? The cleaner I have is sized adequately for most pistols so I may want to try it on some in my collection.

John, It would probably be impossible to DIY and beat this deal from Harbor Freight. I have had this one for over a year and am pleased with it's operation. They also have smaller other models. Here'a a neat tip. Almost all ultrasonic cleaners have a dead node somplace in the tank. To find it, or ju...

Al, These were rotary stepper switches. which were solenoid driven switches. Think of a 10 to maybe 40 position 2 to 10 pole rotary switch that moved to the next step with a pulse to a solenoid. 6 pulses, 6 steps. They could be arranged to self step by using interrupter contacts on the solenoid arma...

Greetings... Aside from oatmeal box radios, I remember building an 'adding machine' using a ton of salvaged telephone company stepper switches and a half ton of NE-2's . I body filled the original unneeded holes on a used commercial slope top cabinet and repainted it. A rotary dial was the input dev...

Al,

Some of the 'better' later generation VCR's used gearing instead of a handfull of belts. Even some of the Fwd/Rwd idler and clutch assemblies were 'rubber free'.

Externet Another idea! Use an SCR or triac in series with the telco line sieze path. I've used them in a opto-islolator package for isolation. Be sure the rating of the device is several hundered volts so it doesn't break over with the typical 90 VAC ringing voltage and spikes. The device can be tri...

Externet, Instead of using a 'lost audio' scheme to disconnect the telephone, why not use the CPC (Calling Party Control) signal generally available from the telco? This used to be a battery reversal or a momentary loss of DC on the telco line, or both. Today battery reversals are usually not used b...

Another Thought! There could be some 'aging' reference to the original, or last post. Maybe a flag to show that the thread's last post was over a certain time period, or the thread could be moved to another area. Some other forums have both 'Active' and 'Archive' sections. A member recently added a ...

A Thought,

We use JB Weld first, to fill voids then use a putty-like epoxy over top to provide the strength. It's the best of both worlds!

Still Have Some!

Come on guys! There must be sombody out there that can use this 'retired' gear. Put together a system, make some $ repairing one, donate it to a school and take the write off, or whatever you want. I'll take a trade, cash or maybe even a good original hard luck story. I'll even answer questions abou...

As an aside.. When I was stationed in the UK a life time ago, the US penny was not allowed to be used. They were collected and redeemed in silver upon arrival because they were the same size as a UK coin, the sixpence I believe, and worked in the cigarette vending machines. All the US sales on base ...

Dave, Yes the buzzing has some of the same characteristics as your sound bytes. I suspected cell phones from the beginning but the only way 'bagging' would ever work is to have a hypnotist or a guy with a gun, front and center. The audience is political wigs and news media covering the meeeting with...
