Re: electroplater revisited

I kind of figured you were really referring to current density, rather than merely total current into the cell.<p>If I may make a suggestion, you might find some very practical advice on what you are trying to do by contacting the printer at any major printing operation or newspaper. If you buy one ...

Go stand in the corner, Chris

Ihis is at least the third "cycle" of Chris' misbehavior that I've noticed, where he gets extrememly unruly and abusive, other members finally jump all over him, and he then calms down and becomes a real value to this board. He is apparently in the latter part of ths cycle right now, his l...

Re: VARISTOR A CHOICE?

That's sort of what I was asking, since I don't have any ballasts aroound to play with. But I also wondered about the general concept of putting any big L in series with the motor, of whatever nature, like maybe an old transformer or something cheap and reasonably available. <p> The idea of using an...

Re: VARISTOR A CHOICE?

Philba: What did you think of the flourescent ballast (inductance) in series with the pump motor?<p>Too way out? I've no idea what their inductances or DC resistances would be, it just popped into my mind.<p>[ September 24, 2005: Message edited by: terri ]</p>

Re: VARISTOR A CHOICE?

There was a tricky little circuit I saw once for limiting the inrush of current to a high-power transmitter power supply, using a relay in series with the primary which switched in a resistance in series with the primary and then dropped out when the initial current surge dropped to running levels. ...

Re: electroplater question

(Actually, a little ripple is usually a good thing in a plating tank. Most of the time, it smooths out the deposition. In fact, some plating operations work best with reverse current for a short part of the cycle. However, we don't know for sure that s/he's even plating, from the information supplie...

Re: electroplater question

The immediate and inane answer is to shunt 2.9 amps around the cell.<p>But:<p>What are you using it for? (Application?)<p>Do you have a circuit of the power supply? Or even a brand name?<p>Details, please.

Aw, jeeze.<p> We've gone through this before and I guess we'll go through it again. And again. A quote from Yogi Berra comes to mind.<p> The upshot of the last couple of go-rounds on this topic were:<p> 1. We don't need a moderator.<p> 2. A lot of the diversion is caused by insufficient initial info...

Re: VARISTOR A CHOICE?

That's why I emphasized the connections. I assume a fairly heavy gauge supply, but I couldn't be sure from the problem as stated, so I figured I'd throw that in about line resistance, too. As opposed to connection resistances.<p>[ September 22, 2005: Message edited by: terri ]</p>

Re: VARISTOR A CHOICE?

How about you "hefty-ize" the wiring to the inverter (and its connections ! ) Four hundred watts is 33 amps more or less from the battery. Betcha you've only got about 10-ga wiring to the inverter. And, if possible, shorten the feed lines to the inverter. When you're talking 33 amps, you'r...

"I built one in the early 80s for my 4x4 truck in reverse."<p>Do I interpret this correctly? You don't mean you had it hooked to the reverse gear so it would cut the volume when you put it in reverse, but rather that you built one that boosted the volume instead of cutting the volume as we...

Re: AVC or ALC ...or ?

Well, I meant between the driver stage and the final amp stage. I also thought maybe you stuck them directly in the speaker lines, but I figured that was pretty unlikely.<p>[ September 21, 2005: Message edited by: terri ]</p>

Jimandy:<p>So what'd you do, feed the power stage through the bulb such that if the input power was too high, the bulb's resistance would go up, thereby cutting the signal to the power stage?<p>(Bulbs are handy little devices for all sorts of unexpected things.... there used to be a section in the H...
