Re: Beheaded fatty nail as soldering tip...

Hi Mr Al, sorry if I missed replying to something. If you like to send it again I can still try to answer it. I remember now about the diamond things. The little hand files came from Dollar Tree, four in the pack. I also got packs of diamond cutting wheels for my Dremel rotary tool from Harbor Frei...

Re: Beheaded fatty nail as soldering tip...

Howdy Mr Al, thanks for mentioning maybe missing a PM. That wasn't any problem considering how things can happen in life. I had some of those files that came four in a pack. I think they indeed were pretty low quality. Hi, Yes the PM must have been 'deleted' by you at some point. If i remember righ...

Re: Beheaded fatty nail as soldering tip...

(from wiki) Above1700 °C (1973 K /3583 °F) in vacuum or oxygen-free atmosphere, diamond converts to graphite; in air, transformation starts at ~700 °C. Diamond's ignition point is 720–800 °C in oxygen and 850–1000 °C in air I think of those folks rummaging through ash in the CA wildfires and findin...

Re: Beheaded fatty nail as soldering tip...

haklesup, those thoughts remind me how diamond fingernail files deteriorated much faster than I expected when filing steel nails or black drywall type screws, as far as I can remember. Hey there Joseph, Just for reference, i may have missed one of your PM's as i did not log in for a while some time...

Re: Beheaded fatty nail as soldering tip...

Hi Al. How much erosion brass, bronze tips show compared to copper ? With an iron nail, erosion should be minimal, stiffness great, But of course slow heat conductivity that calls for fatter and shorter tips to approach a reasonable performance in certain uses. Remember trying a gold clad tip when ...

Re: Beheaded fatty nail as soldering tip...

Hello there, I have done this NUMEROUS times, too many times to remember all the times. However, i do remember the way to get this to work right. I have used steel and brass. Steel is about 8 times less thermally conductive than copper, but brass is only 4 time less conductive than copper. That make...

Re: Experimenting with Hot Glue..

Hi again,

Oh yes very nice, thanks.
It's good to look at stuff like this for future use. Waterproofing is often in great need for electronic devices.

Re: To evaluate performance of used 18650 cells...

I watched a youtube video from bigclive. He used a wall clock to time the battery discharge. I'm sure there's a better way in there some where, like maybe a 60hz up counter and op amp? Hi, Keep in mind you dont have to be super accurate with this measurement. Even if you use increments of 1 minute ...

Re: Message Board update

They need to update their team list. Vern's not one, but Sean is? I wonder if Larry Lemieux ever reads anything here. One would think that since these publications are his, he'd take at least a passing interest in this forum. Hi, Yeah so we might wonder who updated the software recently then

Re: To evaluate performance of used 18650 cells...

I noticed that Max discharge current is the other primary specification used for selection. Naturally you would want a high discharge current for say a super flashlight but lower discharge and a little more capacity for something like a low power toy. How do you suppose one would measure that spec....
