Re: transformer question - how to calculate?

but is there an equation for this or math of some sort...or would it be complicated ? er... What are you trying to do? Are you investigating regular 60 Hz sine wave power transformers with laminated cores? Or are you wondering about high frequency power supplies using ferrite cores? Are you plannin...

Re: Stepper Motors

The unipolar, I think that's the one with the center-taps, is the most versatile. You can use it both ways. eg: a unipolar motor with both windings tapped 6V-0V-6v can be used as a bipolar 12V. It dissipates more power as a bipolar this way but I have not heard any negative comments about the extra ...

Re: transformer question - how to calculate?

Turns ratio should be almost identical to the voltage ratio: 10:1 In the real world, the transformer manufacturer probably adds a few more secondary turns to compensate for resistance losses in the primary and secondary windings when the transformer is under its rated load. Input and output VA shoul...

Re: Another Car Audio Amp ( 5,000W - Mono ) :O

once again i am working on another car audio amp, this is the largest one i have worked on to date. it is a Hifonics XXV Goliath 5,000WRMS @ 1ohm stable :O but they do make a 10,000W model also. anyway this things requires a 500A external Fuze. Phuuuuu. Did you double check the fuse value? I don't ...

Re: Email Notifications

I think staying in the OUT box means that no sysop has logged in to receive the PM. When the sysop logs in to check the mail account, the message goes into their IN bin and only then does it report as SENT in your account.

Re: Light dependent resistors...

Thanks Sir Edd. OK, no such reversed behavior LDR. Yes, a simple inversion circuit as the 'Dark activated' here: ----> http://www.sentex.ca/~mec1995/circ/actrelay.htm Without D1, Led1, R2, and sustituting Ry1 with a string of leds. Then those would turn on dusk to dawn. Oh, Sentex and Rony Van Roon...

Re: Bad Bulbs?

.... condensation forms inside the fixture at night while the lamp is off. I find that in the odd world where I live, most of my outdoor lamps are off during the day (I guess we use the sun a lot more here); at night, the lamp is on and would chase moisture away. In the world in which I live in, in...

Re: Bad Bulbs?

I suspect that you have those fixtures sealed so well that condensation forms inside the fixture at night while the lamp is off. Vent it so air can flow from bottom to top but have a hood so that water can't get in.

What is a U Ground plug? http://www.acclaim-music.com/Hubbell/Cables-Connectors-Bulk/ Maybe it's a Canadianism? The same connectors can be seen at at the US homedepot.com, but the decription does not include "U ground": http://www.homedepot.com/Electrical-Dimmers-Switches-Outlets-Plugs-Co...

Re: Ceiling Fan wiring

Bob Goodness, in all your years of electronics you don't have any home lab devices mounted to your power lines? Actually, no. Anything I build to attach to the house wiring uses a U ground plug, whether it needs one or not. I've been careful to keep the insurers happy. Which brings up a littl...

Re: Ceiling Fan wiring

Wouldn't the easiest thing be adding a wall mounted variable speed control and leave the the fan itself on high speed. Right. Ceiling fan wall-box controls are available, and they are aproved by UL/CSA. I'm pretty sure that house insurance companies frown upon the installation of home-made electric...

Re: Fan motor running on half wave ?

Im betting that the motor does not turn. Too bad i cant remember the experiments i did back in the 80's with triacs and transformers and fan motors. The transformers do work to some degree if the phase angle is the same for both positive and negative excitation waveforms. I cant remember all of the...

Re: Any experts in electrolysis, please ?

Hi all. Anyone around here with solid knowledge of electrolysis processes, the voltages applied and its effect on particles/ions/solutions of all kinds of chemicals ? Thanks. During my perusals of the old PS and PM magazines from the 30's and 40's, I noticed an article or two on how to do specific ...
