Re: 556 and Flip Flop

First half of the 556 is running a fast cycle all the time, say 2Hz (16 flashes in 8 seconds). It is in astable mode
Second half is configured as a 1 shot with 8 second period triggered by a pushbutton. Output is high for 8 seconds when button is tapped.
NAND the output of these two sections. Th...

Re: AFT wont lock

The replacement was for the whole set not the part. My preference for waiting was not a safety position in case I screw up, I have confidence in my repair skills and in your authoritative answer. I just like to watch TV while I fix TV. I was planning to buy a new set all along and the amount of padd...

Re: Damned lightbulb burned out AGAIN

We have a socket like that at my office. Incandescent bulbs burn out in under a month. The primary culprit was vibration. This fixture was in a place that got a lot of acoustic vibration caused by a nearby road (i.e. low frequencies but quite loud).
We replaced it with a new compact flourescent bu...

Re: AFT wont lock

Thanks Edd, I had a feeling I would hear from you on this one. Peeked inside again last night and the description of the module you gave fits very well. Though I couldn't see markings, the size, location and presence of the pot on top all fit perfectly.
Lucked out would be right if I can effect a ...

Re: Dallas iButton Help

Use a different supply for the pullup/power to the iButton as you do for the rest of the circuits. You probably have a 5V regulator IC in there someplace. Put another one in right beside it and use that supply to power the interface (pullup resistor). Now if someone shorts the interface, only that s...

AFT wont lock

I've got this old Sony TV (circa 1993)and while using the AV inputs it works fine but when trying to tune any channels with the internal tuner it looks like someone has taken hold of the fine tuning knob and is twisting it back and forth (~0.5 Hz) so that the channel never locks in clearly. (i.e Aut...

So you're saying there is more than one way to skin a cat (and no one on board liked cats). Hmmmm..... ;)

Re: Switching lights with turn signals

You said a lot but I think this was the crux of it " What I want to do is when the directional is hot, to pull a segment of R + G high (5v) and B low. When current isn't flowing through the directional, it would work in the normal fashion getting it's power from the existing supply. (Which coul...

Re: Need help on a timer circuit

I see no difference between a switch pushed by your bumber or your finger.
Is this because the bumper option does not seem to be a momentary switch and as a doorbell button would be? A little mechanical design creativity can fix that.
For a 555 circuit, as long as your button push (trigger puls...

Re: Switching lights with turn signals

Have you considered powewring the LED from the cars 12V (13.5V) supply directly. All you need is a bigger resistor than you would for the 5V option. And there is no reason that the resistor cannot include a pot (I would put a pot in series with a resistor so I could not dial it to too low a resistan...

Re: midi player

My LG phone plays polyphonic ring tones in MIDI format. I use a program called Bitpim to load files directly onto the phones memory.
My problem is that I cannot find a MIDI editor with simple basic functions that would let me simply trim off some time from the beginning or end of a file (like I ca...

Re: Speaker Wire Elevators

Hi Extranet, I wouldn't buy them either and it sounds like you are short on leaded crystal goblets too. I was thinking that if ceramic glazed insulators will stand in for the goblets, something else would too. Perhaps a few glazed flower pots or suspending the cable from a board by fishing line woul...

Re: Speaker Wire Elevators

This is a prime example of how those few with money to burn can distinguish themselves with technology that although there is some (very some) scientific explanation to support the need (by the way, Bravo! Stephen for your analysis) the actual benifit to real live humans is negligable (an overstatem...

Re: root locus diagram

A root locus is the frequency domain equivelent of a Bode plot (time domain).
When you do a Laplace or Forier transform you are converting a complicated math expression (usually with lots of calculus) in the time domain to a simpler algebreic expression in the frequency domain. Once converted, it ...

Re: whats the difference?

The 1376 has a higher minimum operating voltage but otherwise all the spec differences are favorable (higher max Vdd, temp, current etc) assuming your supply can put out a little more current at the same voltage, you should get a louder output.
