Thanks to everyone. I'm trying to make my own punch out of some tool steel I have. If it works I'll try to post a pic. Mr. Reed's idea about the router will be what I use if I can't make the punch. I'm using T51 6061 aluminum which is the hard kind, so this should work. Zotdoc

spark plug battery charger/radio transmitter?

I found an article on the web( http:angelfire.com/ak/egel/capcharg.html) This article claims to make a battery charger from a 200 foot strand of insulated wire hooked to a spark plug and coil and capacitor. The wire is hooked to the top of the spark plug, the grounded end of the plug is hooked to th...

The holes are for molex 12 wire power connectors, MLX series and are about 1.25 by 1.25 inches and have two little tab cutouts at each end. I'll look into the greenlee punch thing. Thanks to all.

I can't help you with the # turns etc but you better be sure you talk to the road crew and tell them what you are doing. No need to have any visits from the dept of homeland security!

The two switch idea was one I decided after reading about air bag actuator circuits, they have a two switch system for safety and so I copied the idea. Also, with two switches you can then set up an array allowing you to shoot more times with the same number of relays or mosfets.

Thanks to all. Hacklesup, I'm not sure what you mean by floating the firing wire, I'm assuming you mean just run it out to the fireworks, please correct me if that is wrong. The 1 Mohm resistor on both wires between the relays won't just burn up when the relays are turned on? If so, that is OK but I...

Another question - I have been reading up on mosfets and they seem cheaper and smaller than relays. Since I am using "high side" switches from the positive rail and "low side switches from the negative rail, do I hae to get both P cahnnel and N channel mosfets or can I just reverse th...

I want to make a circuit to light fireworks that will involve nichrome wire as the ignitor, using a 36 volt golf cart battery bank as the power supply. Control ot the ignition will be with 2 switches, one on the positive supply rail, and one on the negative rail, with both switches needing to be &qu...

I guess this is off topic but can anyone tell me if this circuit was driving an incandescent load, could or would there be a similar problem with relay chatter?

Good points by everyone, I agree EVs arent for long trips, but if we would spend the money on solar chargers (not a solar car) most of the commuters could charge their cars all day and possibly not need much "on grid" time. I think the costs of solar panels will come down once they are tru...

enough with the air car already, lets talk electric vehicle

Hi everyone. I'm now convinced that the air powered car is a wait and see, maybe some new technology will make it happen. I just cant figure why electric cars haven't made a comeback. I drive about 30 miles or less a day and my truck just sits in the sun all day. I've seen electric vehicles such as ...

I want to mass produce them, make about 1000 or so. They are destroyed when ignited. The nichrome and lead wires will be glued to a tiny piece of double sided pcb board. the nichrome end of it is dipped in nitrocellulose acetate and gunpowder after the wires are glued in place. I wanted to try the g...

I want to make fireworks ignitors using a double sided pc board chip and nichrome wire, gluing them together using electricaloly conductive epoxy. Anyone with experience out there? Will this work and will the epoxy actually conduct properly?

24 volt golf car batteries to run a wireless router

I would like to set up a wireless router in a field to take signals from a laptop (500 feet away) to an ethernet I/O board that will shoot a fireworks show. I have a 3 - 8 volt golf cart batteries in series that will shoot the firework igniters. With my setup, the wireless router will work best out ...
