Re: Bad Characters on the Board Here

What a relief. When I saw the subject I was just sure it was about me! I try to be a nice guy, but sometimes my "bad character" shows itself.

GREAT! I was having one of those days where my ideas weren't panning out here at work. Now I feel like I made a contribution! Now I have to go to a meeting <sigh> I am sure nothing will get done for me the rest of the day  BTW I like the refrigerator idea. I just might do something like that ...

Hi Mr. Al, I doubt this is of any use, but years back I used one of those old led's on the "lock" output of a PLL. Darn, I don't remember the number now! It showed red when it was totally out of lock, then gradually turned from amber to green as it was locking in on the frequency. That was...

I haven't posted a lot lately, but have been lurking, and decided now is a great time to jump in and wish all of you a very Merry Christmas - or if that isn't your thing - then I still wish you all of the best, no matter what your beliefs (if any!). I hope all can agree that it is a New Year by the ...

I am wondering the same thing. I'll look into this and see what I can find out about cable feeds.

For what it is worth... EchoStar 7 at 119 degrees has been having some power issues lately. Seems to be at nighttime over the US when it is relying on it's batteries. It hasn't died off, but signal can often be drastically reduced during the later hours.

Generally one sat per LNB. You can have multiple LNB's on one dish though. Bigger dish = better quality signal and better towards the edges for multiple LNB's. Kinda oversimlifying, but hope that is close. One satellite I like is this one http://www.lyngsat.com/galaxy19.html . Any of the listed chan...

I've dealt with MXMart dot com several times out of Canada, but ships to the US pretty cheap. Got a great 32" elliptical dish that rocks - none of the rain fade that I used to get with the smaller one during severe rains in KS... Oh yeah, you won't be having that problem! Just this weekend the ...

The LNB's (receiver at the end of the arm) on the Direct TV are slightly different. If you point a DTV dish at a Dish Network Sat, you probably won't be able to get all of the available transponders, but you can get some of them - that all depends on the receiver type though.

Our company got the short end of the stick. We are Lead-free exempt. For years now, our Purchasing dept and I warned engineers in my company that it would affect us regardless, and our warnings went unheeded. NOW, I spend a great percentage of my day trying to find parts that are no longer readily a...

Great reply Hacklesup! I wasn't even thinking about that damn lead-free soldering! That is the best reference you could give to someone who wants further information on all types of soldering. IPC is THE standard, and has tons of great information as well as forums.

I'm a firm believer in Consumer Reports. I bought a one month on-line membership before buying my Samsung 42" LCD. An excellent site with great tables and stuff to do comparisons. In my opinion, the subscription paid for itself, plus I looked up tons of other stuff during that month. It was ver...

I totally agree with Philba's approach, but one more thing. I usually try to resolder the leg that I tacked down in the first place. The component can, and often will shift while soldering all the other pins down. Rehitting the first joint will hopefully remove any stress that it was under. Just one...

I built a nice little headphone amp with a Maxim MAX4410 and a couple of discrete parts. The two headpohone jacks took up the majority of the PCB layout!!! It came out about the size of a bic lighter. Those Candy tin amps on fleabay work really well. I bought one last year for a steal. Good luck.
