Chris, What 'history' am I accused of fighting? Where are the bags for batteries sold? Are they supplied with the batteries? In our society if a battery were to explode and someone were injured because the manufacturer did not supply, or suggest that the battery be in a bag, the lawsuit would buy al...

Regarding the plastic bag idea, well I don't think it would work. When you electrolyze water you get both hydrogen and oxygen. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrolysis_of_water for the details. If the atmospheric O2 was the problem how would it get into the top of the battery to mix with ...

Are the batteries getting hot during charge? If so there is definately a problem. Are they servicable, with caps or plugs, if not they may be dry and overheating! Normally, the battery cannot create a vacuum since there are vents for the gas. As for the storage, well that depends on the conditions. ...

BATTERY BOOM!
Modern 'maintenance free' wet cell batteries can be a time bomb! Over the past year I've seen several batteries explode with no obvious reason, but, closer investigation does indeed show what happens. As is well known, charging a wet cell battery causes an electrolyte loss as hydrogen and oxygen ga...

OK, now there are two options, PIC Basic and XCSB basic. Are there advantages /disadvantages to either(disregarding the cost)? Which of the two is the closest to the PBasic I've been using. Do either run like PBasic, program/load/run all in the same setting or are they more involved. Can I still pro...

BASIC to PIC
Over the years I've learned to do some programming with the Parallax line and now want to migrate to PIC's. I want as short a learning curve as possible since it is not a life long need! Preferrably, some of my previous designs could be ported with mnimal rewrites to a comparable PIC. I'm old school...

Coil Question
We have repaired many switch mode ballasts for a medical fluorescent lighting system. There is a coil on these ballasts that often develops an open or shorted winding. It is a simple open bobbin unit that is quickly rewound. It is used to provide feedback to the oscillator (approx 200Khz) and it car...

Diode Dilemma?
Here's a thinker's issue! There is a family of diodes, the 1N400X family that are commonly available as 1N4001 with a PIV of 50V to 1N4007 with a PIV of 1000V. In any given manufacturer's price listing all are the same (or nearly) the same price. The manufacturer usually lists all of them on the sam...
