#4 wasn't there a full HVAC controller somebody made in N&V within the last 2 years? I looked briefly through what I have around but didn't see it. Do you receive the E-version of N&V? If you do, open one up and look at the address. At one point you will see (for Nov. 2008) this: /nutsvolts...

If this is truly for a laptop, why not just use a 100 watt inverter and run the standard charger/ps through there. Just remember to place a cutoff switch in line with the 12v so as not to run down your battery. The Black and Decker 100w inverter I have runs both my and my son's laptop without a hick...

As for finding spiral equations, a search on Math.com nets these: 1. Equiangular Spiral, Logarithmic Spiral, Bernoulli Spiral 2. logarithmic spiral 3. Yahoo! Answers 4. Spirals These are the first 4 off the list, just to name a few. Hope you can find what you want somewhere in there. CeaSaR

I understand completely and am assuming a perfectly circular hub also,
as a spiral based hub would be overkill for a manufacturer, likely more
expensive to mass produce accurately. I just wanted to throw my
observations into the fray for consideration.

If you really want to stop and think about it, what you are actually looking at is a series of concentric circles with a slight "bump" where the first circle (tape) begins. A spiral indicates a central starting point with each point of the compass being further away from the center than th...

Al, From your description, it sounds like you want to introduce a minute reverse curve (main winding into the "bump") into a second reverse curve (out of the "bump" back into the main winding) that then becomes concentric with the main winding again. The first set of reverse curv...

Welcome back Bigglez. I missed your insight while you were "lurking".
Hopefully we'll hear more from some of the older threads that went into
standby, they were interesting and informative.

DAC, Do you remember if there is anything on the controller that might be affected by x-rays / ESD from outside sources? Could be that something opened or shorted inside, during the trip through the airport scanner, causing the discharge / lack of ability to charge. Of course, you should check that ...

No problem Al, I just wanted to give you another way to measure / check / verify the belt and then look around there or at some other "store" for your replacement, should you want. The MCM catalog has some useful tips in it and is good to have around, even if you don't purchase anything fr...

Sir Al, I know you are going to scrap the VCR now, but I wanted to clarify my statement. When I said compensate for worn belts, I meant that in the instructions at the top of page 205 of the MCM catalog it states: "When measuring worn belts, select a replacement 3% to 5% smaller. *(Inside circu...

MrAl,

That is why I pointed you towards MCM's catalog. It gives you all you
need to accurately measure your belt, and also tells you how to
compensate for a stretched belt. If you don't want to trust a printout, ask
them for a copy. They would be more than glad to give you their advertising.

I actually still have my first project, and even brought it out to show my kids. It was a mechanical buzzer built with enameled wire wound around a nail, a hacksaw blade, a screw (just touching the top of the blade) wire and a homebrewed switch (more hacksaw blade and a tack), all powered by a 6V la...
