LCD Web Store
Hi all,
I had just got the last issue of Nuts & Volts and I noticed that several companies are selling LCD. Comparing to ours the prices are amazing, for example a widely used 16x2 dot character LCD with backlight, usually sold at $39 on Nuts & Volts, but I can easily get a top quality one...

Re: how to build rpm circuit?
Hi Philba
this filter plan may run in trouble, notice that the speed of the bicycle can be various from 5mph to 30mph, how to determin the cut-off freq of the filter?
I think a several hundred pf capacator between the GND and input of schmitt triger will work as the noise canceller. Only the ver...

OLED
Today I got a 128 x 64 blue OLED display panel, looked very nice, I think it can be used as substitude of most mono LCDs.
Drawbacks? cost, and power consumption.

Re: Radio Scan Function
usually a oscillator (or pll syntherizer) generate a step-up (or down) freq, and there's a signal detecting circuit. when the detector see a station there, it stops there (or remember the location)

Re: Standard IF frequencies
Old receivers use 200kHz because they use mechanical filter for the IF.
465k is also widely used in asia MW radio.
many dual convertion shortwave receivers use 58.245M and 455k(465k) as 1st and 2nd IF.

Re: Power Supply and Battery Backup
Zener is not stable when working near the cut-off voltage. a comparator with schemitter-triger design would be more reliable but a little complicate.

Re: 12 volt 15 amp voltage regulator
Hi Moe,
I strongly suggest you using DC-DC. A simple calculator will let you know how many watt will this regulator using up: 15amp x (48-12) = 540Watt! You can use this power supply to bake your bread.
A 200W DC-DC power supply won't be too expensive, and it's the realizable way for you

Green Laser pen
I bought a 10mW green laser pen yesterday, comparing to another 10mw red laser beam, so amazing, the green light seems to be times powerful than the red one (when pointing to the dark sky). I think this is because of the eyes' sensitivity of green light is so much higher than red light.

Re: 80K mcd White LEDs?
I have an 5W LED, even brighter than that 80,000 mcd one.
the energy efficiency of white LED is rather low, about 1/8 of fluorescent lamp. but it has advantage, it is small, light, can be powered with battery.
this is a 10,000-120,000 mcd device, which is the same as mine. http://img.china.aliba...
