Re: solarenergyandbeyond

If you burn fuel in some type of engine and use the output power to generate electricity you get a very efficient return on your fuel. Most engines waste around 80% to the exhaust and cooling system. That heat can be recovered to heat your house. The electricity can be used in the house and ultimate...

Re: What Tools Are Really For

The trouble light is the most appropriately named item. When it is lighted it is usually shining in your eyes or burning your arm. When you finally get it positioned it falls and the bulb goes out. Big Trouble!

Re: circuit to energize a relay for 30 seconds

Do you intend to have the water circulate at intervals so it's always hot? You haven't mentioned what you want to trigger the circuit. A thremostat may be a better fix.

Re: "Perfect" LED current limiting challenge

You may run into problems with this circuit because the pwm circuit averages high current bursts in time. If you use a constant current circuit on the end of it as a safety valve it will probably limit the bursts and kill your efficiency. For what it's worth you need to limit the voltage between the ...

Re: Work formula...

If you multiply watts times seconds you get watt-seconds. One watt-second is the same as one joule. Work and energy have the same definition so you're good to go in both cases.

Re: led indicator light

Put the led in series with a resistor of around 600 to 1000 ohms. The flat side of the led goes to ground. The resistor goes from the positive (same wire that's going to the lights) of the switch to the round side of the led.

I heard a story about a P-40 (crashed ww2 aircraft)that was recovered from the jungle after 40 years. The micro switch on the landing gear still worked.

If it's ignored why are you commenting on it?
In the past a majority has supported zero tolerance for any off color subject matter. Our more respected "contributors" should be setting the example.

Re: Simple question from a simple guy

In a word yes they should react like batteries adding voltage in series and adding current in parallel. Other than Ed’s explanation that you messed up the polarity they should have. The three volt rating needs a speed associated with it since voltage and speed are directly proportional on p.m. motor...

Re: Frequency to voltage conversion...

It depends on what you call "simple". A basic stamp can read very low frequency in period mode or higher using it's pulse in function. Output the result as a voltage with the pwm function.

YOu can make a charge pump with two diodes two capacitors and a resistor.
