Re: Need accurate temperature display
When our friend Phil put in the new furnace and central air the guy was amazing. He used a simple hand held pyrometer and ran the system over and over again over a few days. Our cold air return was a disaster as were the ducts etc, so it was all replaced. The guy actually used ducts with levers in t...

Re: Need accurate temperature display
OK, curiosity prevailed so I went in and looked at the thermostat we have and discovered it is a Robertshaw thermostat. Actually no, I never knew what it was. Through Google I discovered it is this particular model . The wife has it set to maintain 74 Deg. F. I looked at the little digital readout w...

Re: Need accurate temperature display
A few years ago I made a simple little temperature conversion program that can be downloaded here . Simply download the .zip file then right click on it and let Windows unzip it and double click the executable. Just enter a numeric value in the top text box and the lower boxes will tell you that tem...

Re: Need accurate temperature display
I don't even want to think about what Reloadron's set of thermometers is worth. Heck, the last research chemistry lab I worked in we removed all the mercury containing thermometers and replaced them with digital ones. (Spilled mercury is just to dangerous and to much of a PITA to clean up.) I reall...

Re: Need accurate temperature display
I suppose I could amass as many different thermometers as possible, set them all side by side, and if two or three agree, accept that as a reading as close to accurate as possible. Then use one of those as my standard. Ah but I hear someone saying I will have to vary the ambient temperature and tak...

Re: Need accurate temperature display
I am going to venture a guess why it is doing what it is doing beyond the overall accuracy. Most of these devices have a hysteresis built in of a few degrees. If I set my thermostat on cool and a set point of 75 the compressor will run and the system will pull the indicated temperature down to about...

Re: Tiny Temperature Logger
Yes Ron, that's what I may purchase, gut it to extract the active components, and repackage them. Dry ice, being solid carbon dioxide, would not last long in the vacuum with heat. If I packaged it hermetically, it would be a bomb! Hermetically sealed is not what I had in mind. :) LOL Nice t...

Re: Tiny Temperature Logger
If you could find a way to package one of these to remain cool enough it would data log your temperatures. Three of them would work but the trick is again being able to package the little things. Understand the vacuum and atmosphere aspects. Would a few chips of dry ice present a problem?

Re: OT: Computer Virus Forum?
Hi Bob
Among the best virus removal tools I have found is Combo Fix which can be found here. I start in Safe Mode tapping F8 at boot and select Safe Mode with Networking from the options. Then run the tool from the desktop. Heck I keep that tool on my thumb drive it is so useful.

Re: Smart Meter
Why not? I have a smart gas meter and a smart water meter so I figure a smart electric meter should be in the meter family around here. Actually the gas company can now just drive down the street and ping all the meters. I guess meter reading isn't what it once was.

Re: Right Angle Power Cord Exact Dimensions
Hi Ya MrAl I come up with the end that plugs into the PSU (before the right angle) being about 1.636" and after the 90 degree turn about 1.900 into and of strain relief area befor just the cord. This is with an AWG 16 cable. I would venture a guess that these dimnensions could vary with the exc...

Re: Hundred Dollar Potentiometer (help)
Hi Ya MrAl
I found the data sheet but unfortunately the parts beeakdown doesn't show enough. I went on a search for one but with no success so I don't know what to tell you. I don't think they are built with disassembly in mind.

I found this listing on nylon that may help. It shows what will dissolve it. Now a matter of gold friendly.

How does gold feel about it? That is what I wonder about. Finding something that will get to nylon and not react with gold.jwax wrote:Formic acid comes to mind.

Re: GOLD
We use nylon jars at work to handle and transport acetone from 55 gallon drums. I am pretty sure nothing will happen. Actually I would vote for heating it up a little as gold has a high melting point and it would take considerable heat before the gold had problems.
