Re: Telephone Message Waiting Indicator Circuit
As far as I know, you don't get any sort of dial tone while the phone is on-hook, so I doubt if this is possible.

Re: PICing it or How I learned to love Microcontrollers
I don't know where this 15 years figure comes from.
I have a 1982 data book from General Instruments which contains PICs. They were originally made by GI before Microchip existed.
Anyway, I make that more like 22 years.
Not that Chris Smith will care one way or the other!

Re: How to measure a mechanical vibration frequency?
Strange this question should come up now, I recently started noticing a new noise from my car (automobile) engine, my mechanic friend couldn't hear anything wrong. Years ago I used to fix arcade video game PCBs, and I remembered that some company (Atari? Midway?) used to sell a "signature analy...

Re: Oops! Printer no-no!
Back in the good old days, when I was young and carefree, I used to think it was a jolly prank to photocopy bank notes (on a black and white machine) then roll them up and drop them into empty brown-glass beer-bottles in bars. Thankfully I'm grown up now. I still think that it's funny, but I can't b...

Re: Lamp Current vs Voltage
I think I remember reading somewhere, that for 12V halogen lamps, 10% overvoltage reduces lamp life by 50%, and 10% undervoltage reduces light output by 50%.
On the other hand, I could have just dreamt it (not that my having dreamt it would automatically make it false).

Re: A vision
It's not the lemons that provide the energy, it's the dissimilar metal electrodes. The lemon, potato or even saliva just act as the electrolyte.
