Re: Suppliers

Chris, What are the specs on that coil. How long were the sparks you could get off of it? What type and size of transformer did you use?
[ September 03, 2002: Message edited by: unknown_entity ]

Re: Suppliers

You're probably right that there is not a high enough voltage between individual turns to cause a breakout. But the bottom of a secondary is usually grounded so the turns toward the top will be stressed higher than those on the bottom. I've heard of sparks breaking out of the last few inches of the ...

Re: Suppliers

Actually it's for a tesla coil. I was going to make some different sized secondaries thats why i need 6000ft. But isn't there different types of "magnet wire" as far as insulation is concerned? I remember reading something like double or quad insulation.

Does anyone know where I could get: *A 10-15 Amp Variac *A 20-30 amp EMI filter *About 6000 Ft of 22ga magnet wire (Maybe from a local electric shop that rewinds motors?)
I have already tried Electronic Goldmine, They have no Variacs and only 12Amp or smaller filters. I'd rather buy surplus and s...

Re: Trunking...

Well there are 2 types of "trunking" one has something to do with radio scanners. And i'm not really sure what how it works. And the other trunking is also called phreaking or boxing. It uses a combination of tones to interact with the telephone system. It basicly makes you your own operat...

Re: Cell Phone Jammer

Isn't this about the 3rd time this topic has come up? Well, here's an idea that'll kill the cell phones. Get a microwave oven bypass the door switches, open the door set it on 80 power and point it in the general direction of the cell phone you wish to jam and then the cell phone and person using it...

Re: Building a...

oh one more thing GFI's don't need to be grounded to work. They work by sensing a difference in current between the hot and neutral wire. It only takes about 30Ma differenct to set one off.
So you can use a 2 prong plug instead of a 3.

Re: Building a...

no idea what you're talkin about but to hook up a GFI to something, There are 4 screws 2 marked "line" the other 2 "load". The line side goes to the 120V from the wall. The hot wire goes to the gold screw and the neutral goes to the silver one, it's the same for the load side. Th...

Re: transistor question

yeah i've noticed it pops up in alot of projects but i guess it's not common enough for gag.. radio shack to stock it. Even walking in that place is like going back in time, all of their components stock looks like it's from the 70's all yellowed and taped back together.

I really don't know much about radios but the FCC trying to bust people for CB power boosters and and cordless boosters they sound like radio nazis or something. But i have heard of people getting some pretty big fines and their equipment taken for destructive interference like tesla coils and stuff...

transistor question

does it matter what i use as a substitute for a 2N2222 as long as it's the same polarity, NPN.
it's not for anything really complicated, just an AM lightwave modulator.
