Hi Rob,

So it seems both methods are suitable.

A couple of questions, on the first method, does each PIC has to count the incoming bytes or channels to find out when its first data byte arrives in order to start feeding the 200 bits into the A6818s? or the PC would send a “specialâ€

Hi Guys,
I don’t know how helpful this truly is but this is the pixel map for each of the panels.
Thanks a lot

Hi Guys,
Sorry about the mess, I should have been more specific.
I totally agree, it makes sense to make all the controllers the same , despite the real number of pixels and size of panel...

The pixel is not really 5â€

I got it, HAL..that's a good analogy, I hope this one doesn't start misbehaving and kill us all.
I have been testing the prototype with the triacs for the last few days exposed to the fierce NY august summer and so far so good.
Thanks

Thanks Rob! I'll be nice to have standard panels, so if one panel fails it can be replaced by a backup panel they may have there while the damaged one is repaired. Let's see what they have to say. so, despite of the number of pixels we end having, do you recommend the 3700 design? so even if we modi...

Hi Rob, I used a 1k, and the regulated 5V signal from the Stamp, and nothing was getting hot at all. What value do you think I should use for the decoupling capacitor. Let’s go with the 3700 solution then and if the school decides to increase the budget (unlikely) to make the screen square then we...

Hi Guys, It works great with the Z0402 triac, and actually this way I can go up to the ideal voltage for the NPD220 film to achieve maximum transparency, 50VAC, but we can keep it at 30VAC and there is almost no difference. I tried speed from 10 ms to over a sec and it works great. I just try with t...

Hi Rob, Thanks a lot!! The PIC Solution is brilliant! so simple. I though that the Data line had to go through the PIC, It’s a great relief it doesn’t. At this point you have help me so much with this project that I feel I owe you big time, thanks Rob, and now your brother is helping too… I wo...

Hi Rob, Thanks a lot! Using the 74132's and the 75175 seems such a simple, direct and nice solution, kind of fail proof, but if we can get rid of the 28 individual lines (and the Device Master RTS) by using DMX I guess this is the best way to go, right? It'll be much easier to carry the RS485 line f...

Hi Rob, Thank you so much! I just draw a Chip-Centric diagram for me to understand better the layout you sent me, is this right? So the idea is to use SN75175 instead of the SN75176, right? So the PC generates the clock and latch signal instead of the PICs installed on each panel. We would transmit ...

Hi Rob, I put together this diagram based on the info you gave me to assemble the prototype. What do you think? Another idea I'm considering is using DMX instead, since it works with a multi-drop bus I'll be able to use one single data line from the controlling unit to the screen instead of 28 (as w...

Hi Rob, Thanks! we were thinking on the possibility of getting 28 individual RS485 Serial lines out of the embedded processing unit. each line will connect to one Microcontroller that will send the signal to the cascaded 6818 ICs. someone suggested me to use DMX instead of RS485, but I don't know to...
