janitor >> i think what you describe is a Pico fuze, not really sure what the fuze rating is on 0 ohm resistor. most i deal with look to be 1/4 watt size. i have crushed a few of them, and its just plain lead wire surrounded by ceramic ? or what ever it is that typical resistors are made of. I've g...

Yup, seen a lot of 0 ohm resistors used in VCR's, Tuner Packs, Power Supplies. In the power supply circuit they would act as a fuse. In many CamCorders it is used for a fuse. You could just replace it with a wire. But, in one case I remember that when I did that. The Camcorder came back with a burne...

rotatepod, I did a little checking on what this Model 2834 costs. I was finding units still available for $1500.00!!! I would check with B&K. 1-(800)766-1212 Ask what they would charge to replace the LCD screen. If it's at least 1/4 the cost of what you paid new for it. Then I would say go that ...

Re: BestBuy(?)

I received a Dynex Digital Picture Frame as a Christmas gift 2 months ago. It died. Blank screen, smells of burnt resistor. It was bought at Best Buy (?). Best Buy (?) tells me that without the receipt, I'm out of luck. Even though it is sold exclusively at Best Buy (?), they can't tell if it's wit...

Greetings Dacflyer, tip..with old magazines, i cut out the good stuff and put it in a foto album with the clear pockets , the rest is then gone and cuts down on a lot of clutter.. I use a flatbed scanner to image the paper ephemera and save it to disk. Makes storage and searching much easier. Comme...

Sanyo VHR-9406{GONE}

I've searched high. I've searched low. If this VCR were not so nice, I would throw. But it is a 4 Video Head, Stereo Hi-Fi Digital Unit. 1992 Model. The Capstan Motor Drive IC is SA2007, on the Motor Drive Assembly. *-I've already tried a Capstan Motor Assembly out of a VHR-9100. But, it was just di...

Re: Wall warts are Dead

Well, the linear ones at least. If you thought that the incandescent bulb was the only thing about to go away, maybe you missed a new law (in CA at least for now) that requires a minimum efficiency for wall warts (external P/S). In a nutshell, the tranformer based linear supplies are no longer welc...

CeaSaR, I'll bet your first B&W TV went to 13, having 12 channels! We were B&W until 1967. That big old RCA set was great for scavaging compontents with its HUGE power transformer. I believe that the 5U4 rectifier tube was developed specifically for television sets. At least, I'm sure that'...

Thanks, Lenp.... Your explanation was far more precise than I could of ever said. Oxidation on switch contacts is something I've run into a lot with older Audio Equipment, Mechanical Tuners on TV's, and Relays in Older VCRs. It is kind of strange how some switches, and relays are designed to work in...

Re: Switches from hell

Problem was that the switches measure from 1-100 ohms when closed! GRRR! Lowe's took them back as defective. That sound about right for AC Light Switches. Thou, I would be some what worried about the one that measured around 100 ohms. {That could be a fire hazard!} But most wall light switches are ...

Has anyone actually seen a "set-top box" for sale in a major retail store? If so, what has been the price? The first one I have seen is in the current MCM electronics circular and sells for $189.95! At that price, I might as well buy a brand new TV! And what will happen to all the set-top...
