DB9 To VGA
I was given some computer cables of all types and I came across some I have never seen before. One end of the cable is DB9 like those used for RS232 and the other end is a standard connector for a VGA monitor. What would these be used for?

RS232 - Parallel Port cable ground.
When using a parallel port or serial cable to connect to a circuit like some sort of a microcontroller project what should the cable shield goto? Should it be tied to signal ground or left floating? I assume with RS232 it should be left floating.
