The only thing I know about Oz is what QANTAS stands for.

Re: Random Intervals
I remember an S-F story from the forties or fifties --author Harvey Kuttner? --where the premise was the only way to get a missile through to an opposing space empire was to have an on-board human do the trajectory computations. To do this, a new science was invented -- the science of "graphiti...

Re: Oops! Printer no-no!
Moral of the story is, amendments and tracking and cosmic rewards and punishments and so forth notwithstanding, if it's wrong, don't do it.
That last post reminds me of the old joke about the inept counterfeiter who tried to break a $27 bill. "You want three nines or nine threes for that?&quo...

Re: Random Intervals
Just out of curiosity, does anybody use the system clock (seconds since midnight) as a seed for the psuedorandom algorithms?
Also, somewhere on the net there's a supposedly true hardware random number generator based on the random decay of some unstable isotope or another.
Just bored. Thought I'...

Some cameras have a built-in faintly greenish IR filter behind the lens. Not too hard to remove them.

Yeah! Another reason to ban cellphones, eating while driving, DVD players, etc, etc, etc while driving. People forget that driving is a 110 % job.
I swear, people should not be allowed to drive a car until they've survived one year of driving a motorcycle.
That oughta weed out the noncompos!
S...

Re: since somone had a ultrasonic question....
Rats. I got so involved with a general answer to your voltage question that I didn't answer specifically about voltages.
The usual barium titanate ultrasonic transducers will have anywhere from about 100 volts to 500 (or more) volts applied to them. The main constraint is that you don't want to ap...

Re: since somone had a ultrasonic question....
Well, I don't know for sure about the "hundreds of watts" --that was kind of an exaggeration for the sake of demonstration.
I'm sure you could configure something that would squirt a spray into the intake pipes. What I was really getting at was the fact that (a) some extra energy would ...

Re: since somone had a ultrasonic question....
Before you even get into what kind of transducer should be on the butterfly valve to enhance the atomization, the first question is: How much power is going to be put into the transducer to do all this extra atomizing, versus how much increased power the engine will show from this enhanced atomizati...

I cut my teeth on an IBM 1620 back in the early 60s. There was a little IBM Selectric typewriter connected to it on the control console.
Well, here's my good-news bad-news story. Re: since somone had a ultrasonic question....
Unclear:
D'you mean nozzles (jets) instead of "butterfly valve?" To atomize the fuel in the carb's venturi? You're thinking of using the fogging effect instead of a spray from the jets?
Believe it or not, there used to be something called a "brush carburetor," which used a ro...

"Aren't your carnivorous plant tanks a relatively dust-free environment, so regardless of what kind of water you use, you would not get the dust effect anyhow ?"
That was poorly stated. What I meant was that the fact that you might be using the humidifier in a relatively dust-free enviro...

Re: Project for interested 10 yr old
Used to be that all the transistor manuals and tube manuals had full-blown circuits in the backs of the books showing their products' applications. I built a hi-fi mono amp using 6V6's for finals from one of the old RCA tube manuals (ca 1952 or so) and a couple of other things from these sources.
...

Re: since somone had a ultrasonic question....
I still wonder how much of the dust is due to water droplets picking up dust particles before they evaporate.
Aren't your carnivorous plant tanks a relatively dust-free environment, so regardless of what kind of water you use, you would not get the dust effect anyhow ?
