Re: Kronos Flyer Series

Normaly if you are going to expand the craft size, you are going to add weight. That said with the span at 20 or so inches you will gain stability but the craft will be less agile. I have a frame kit that I will be selling on the web site that is about 23-1/4". These have a special isolation pl...

Re: Kronos Flyer Series

Got some real good testing done on the APM2.5 controller. Stabilized mode works ok but I prefer the Altitude hold mode, as it operates much more like the NAZA in this mode. Here is a video I did as I was testing the GPS Loiter mode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0H5jqVxnA4&feature=youtu.be To ...

Re: Kronos Flyer Series

I moved the APM 2.5+ over t a QAV500 frame. It’s a heavy frame and has large monster motors and 10” props. I did this because this is a fairly slow frame. It is slow enough for me to tell if the copter is going to flip. The KronosFlyer with its faster motors and smaller props are very fast to react....

Re: Kronos Flyer Series

I got the latest APM 2.5 software and firmware loaded and did some initial tests. Crashed both times. The craft just wants to flip. I broke several props but the KronosFlyer is still intact. I got the accelerometer calibration to work. (It would not run earlier It gave me an error). With the acceler...

Re: Kronos Flyer Series

I just finished the final article in the series for the March issue. Due to popular demand I will be doing a bonus article in April where we attach an APM 2.5 to our Kronos Flyer. I had some failures in the past with the APM but it looks like they have released a new firmware set.

Re: Kronos Flyer Series

Im building a APM version of the Kronos flyer now that uses a UNM or at least a variation (couple more platforms). I will be running some tests on th version 2.9 of the APM. However the APM has a way to go before it even comes close to the NAZA for stability and ease of use. When I use the NAZA I ha...

Re: Kronos Flyer Series

I was just balancing a set of 3 blade props. Took me over two hours to get them perfect. I just started thinking to myself, "This is the worst part of this hobby". It has to be done, even if you purchase $50 props, they have to be balanced. when I'm experimenting with a new craft, I don't ...

Re: Kronos Flyer Series

I tried getting the minmosd board to work with the ArdruPilotMega (APM) and it just wont work. It just seems like its not compatible with the mavlink protocol anymore. In reading the RC forums, several others have had issues as well. If some of you folks are going to use the APM, dont use the osd ca...

Re: Kronos Flyer Series

I have shelved the ArduPilotMega for now. Just too unreliable. Crashed today for no reason. It just fell out of the sky. I know its not the frame, motors or ESC, as they fly perfectly with the NAZA. I have two NAZAs and they fly like a dream. As far as I am concerened all other controllers have a wa...

Re: Kronos Flyer Series

Flew the KronosFlyer and the APM (ArduPilotMega) outside today. Was pretty stable. Almost as smooth as the NAZA. The down side is that the Altitude was still in manual mode which meant that I had to constantly raise and lower the throttle as I made maneuvers. On the first flight I just hovered aroun...

Re: Kronos Flyer Series

I would get the 9X system. It works, However you will have to get the configeration off the web as I wont be setting one up any time soon for my ArduPilot. I do have settings on my web site for setting up a 9X for the NAZA. Probably will work on the ArduPilot as well. Here is the thing. I have found...

Re: Kronos Flyer Series

The 9XR is basically the same radio as the 9X but has a lot of the upgrades that came out with on the 9X. They also made it easier to do firmware upgrades. The downside is that they don’t sell a complete system for this radio. Individual Turnigy RF modules can be hard to find. Many use Futaba or Fri...
