Re: Amp crossover
For subwoofer use, an active crossover (before amplifier) is preferred since the sub is insensitive to any high frequency noise (>1khz) introduced by the active circuits in the crossover.

Re: Power Supply thoughts needed
If you want to build your own, the simplest (and not so simple if you don't have a strong electronics background) method would be to get a PWM controller chip like the TL494, or SG3525 and a gate drive chip such as an IR2110 to drive your switching fets. Pull an old transformer off a big car amp, wi...

Re: Mimicking tube behavior with solid state devices
Specifically, I would like to build an audio amplifier using only solid state devices that works as close as a tube amp as possible... The reason I don't want to just build a tube amp is because I am going to design one for car use and would prefer not to step 12.5V up to 150V or more.
Greg, I'll ...

Mimicking tube behavior with solid state devices
Just wondering if there are any links out there that deals with solid state circuits to simulate a vacuum tube.

Re: DC/DC power supply, can you help design?
I just designed and built a DC/DC converter for my car amplifier that I'm designing.
To start off, I would recommend reading the datasheet on the SG3525 controller or the TL494 controller, both of which are pretty much the standard when it comes to PWM control.
In either of the controllers, ther...

Re: Hold reading on LCD meter readout
You can do it by slowing down the sample rate of the system by adding a capacitor to the sensor circuit. That is, if you don't mind the circuit working a little slower. It may allow you to read the display before the next update occurs.

Re: Blinking LED stops blinking?
It probably has something to do more with the LED than anything else...
Does this behavior repeat itself in different temperature environments? The led may have a temperature coefficient.

Re: voltage limiting relay
Actually, there are plenty of PWM motor control ICs out in the market that allows you to control the duty cycle with a potentiometer. You just supply the FET and some timing resistors/capacitors and the IC does the rest.
I would go that way instead. Less power loss, which is more of a factor in an...

Re: Diode or no diode?
I think you're a little confused as to where to place the diode... It needs to go in parallel with the motor to prevent voltage transients during turn on/off of motor from damaging the rest of the electronics.
The majority of the FETS have diodes built in, but that is different from putting a diod...

Re: A battery switch and a switching power supply
You cannot plug the 12V into the 5V and use it for extra amperage. Nor can you parallel two 12V power supplies together to get double the amperage unless you want a fireworks show.

Re: Longish... Toner Transfer PCB query
I have done PCB work using all three methods: pre-sensitized boards, laser toner/iron, and the professional way using gerber files.
Of the three methods, going the professional way is the best for larger and complex design, but it can also be costly due to software costs, pcb manufacturing costs, ...
