Circuit theory to reverse polarity of 12V, <1 amp
Hi, I am in the thinking stages for a circuit that will reverse the polarity of a 12 volt signal that will draw less than 1 amp. This circuit is for my dad's garden railway and will be used to control a railway "frog" (as show here: http://www.trains.com/grw/objects/images/switches_4.jpg )...

First impressions of Digi-Key
Hi Guys, First of all I am in Canada, so I was a little apprehensive to use a supplier outside of my country, expecting long delivery times and crazy shipping costs. Well, I placed my first order with Digi-Key yesterday afternoon. Th order consisted of a few different sizes of resistor networks, som...

Resistor Bank IC
Hi Guys, In the article "Use the Pushbutton Rotary Encoder" in the August '08 (pg 52) issue of N&V, the schematic (and pics) show what looks like an IC that contains a bank of 470 ohm resistors. I have never seen one of these before, and there is no parts list or BOM for that project. ...

Hi, I recommend reading Chuck Hellebuyck's column Getting Started with PICs . I have been following them since they started in January 2006 and have found them to be a great resource. I have been able to build several projects based on his articles, and have also improved on a couple of his designs ...

Robert, that is correct with most domestic vehicles, but most foreign vehicles, like my Acura, go OFF-AUX-RUN-START. A car ignition switch is probably more than $20 new, but you could probably pick one up at the auto-wreckers for $5 if you want to go get it yourself. Probably not worth the effort th...

It looks like gerty found it, specifically, part number 800FM-KM34. The key will only come out in the center position. The key will remain in the left or right position, it will not spring back. The left and right contacts are seperate from each other. In the center position the contacts are open, i...

Hi, I will try measuring C5 as you suggest. I will also try powering the train with my 3A test bench power supply to see if the delay is still there. It might turn on that it doesn't have anything to do with the power supply at all. This is the order in which we start up and notice the delay (note t...

Soldering Iron Temperature
Hi, Last year a bought a fancy Weller adjustable temperature soldering iron, copmlete with a digital readout. However, there was no documentation on what the temperature should be for soldering different things. I have done multiple Google searches and could not find any info on what temperature set...

Hi, For the time being, I decided to build the power supply using two LM7824 voltage regulators. For the two 24 volt outputs, one is on all the time when the power supply is turned on, but the other one has a switch on it so it can be turned off when not in use. We tried the unit out on the railroad...
