Re: Ionic Breeze

I see that one on the tube myself. It seems VERY expensive for an ion generator. I just wonder how much ozone it will produce. In a small area, it could be a little toxic. A few years ago i played with one (homemade) similar to that and along with a pretty good air flow ,i generated quite a bit of o...

Re: Vande-graph generator question

:) I remember the old Edmund Scientific catalog listing those generators and they also had a device to help enhance the charge on the belt. Some generators have them and some do not, but i'm not sure just what type of device they use. I would suspect it would be a source of just a few thousand volts...

Re: Capacitor with three leads

You don't really have to replace it with a 3 lead cap. You just need too find 2 caps with the rating you need and connect them the same way the original was. Just tie the negative leads together and connect to the original location. Many devices used split caps. in power supplys over the years and s...

Re: solar panels and battery charging

I would definitely go with the parallel for as much current as possible. If you are charging a gell-cell your current is about right. An automotive battery might be a little much for your low current but I would use a regulated charger for smaller batterys such as AA's. As for your reading light, go...

I remember reading about the "set-top" converters in Popular Science some time ago. I don't remember who they said would mfg. the units, but they would be in the $100-$250 range at that time.

Re: CGI on low voltages

With an isolation transformer or other un-grounded power supply, and a well insulated lighting fixture designed for submersion, you should not have any leakage in the water.

Re: Cell Phone Jammer

I recently saw a TV news report of a church that was using a short range cell-phone jammer to stop ringing during church services. The pastor said on camera that it worked very well, but he never said where the church got it. The reporter said this was a growing trend in cities where EVERYONE has a ...

Re: Digital Tv by '03

Yes, i'm sure analog TV's will go down more. If you notice, they have gone down a lot in the last few years. According to what I have read, they will continue to broadcast in analog for some time . Then if you still want to use your older set you can buy a set-top converter to watch HD,but only in an...

Re: Air Purifier/Ionizer Plans

We played with those things years ago(70's)but ours were not designed just for cleaning the air. When we built them the idea was a fan with no moving parts. When built correctly, they really pushed quiet a bit of air but had one bad side effect. The HV produced a lot of Ozone. In large rooms it was ...

Yes it's possible to build a guiger counter. You can probably find one cheaper surplus than you can build. I have seen many over the years for reasonable prices......check out www.geocities.com/geigercounters

Re: Cheap Antenna Solution for FRS walkie talkie

The TV antenna will work especially if you happen to still be using 300 ohn twin lead. I have used this many times with various types of low power transmitters and if your in the path of the front end of the antenna, you might be suprised at the range you can get. The 75 ohm will work, but my results...
