Terri, you don't have to say this.... They're all experts here....
Terri, you don't have to say this.... peter-f :
What I basically stand for is a rational examination of the energy problem. For your information, I just paid my electric bill. One hundred forty-five Kilowatt hours. My car gets about 27 mpg -- an older station wagon, needed to cart crap around, so you can't say I'm a wastrel.
But I a...

Wow! I could bengle (bend-mangle) one of those gears just by looking at it from ten feet away!
(My father taught me that term. He also said I could break an anvil just by looking at it. Terri: "Jeeze, Pop. I don't know. I was just looking at it and it fell apart!".)
Not for my thick ca...

Well, I guess one bird killed is too many. The current philosphy seems to be that bird kills are more a siting problem --keeping the 'bines away from migratory patterns, etc.
Various things have been proposed, including whistles on the blades (but actually, birds don't hear as good as humans at th...

Re: Clever mechanism...

That's pretty cool. You can use a solid conrod through a stuffing box, like in a double-acting steam engine piston, but with no crank --it's onnected directly to the rotating part.
Huh!
Machining/production costs might outweigh this advantage, though. Also looks complicated to lube properly.<p...

Thanks, both of ye!
COMMENT: I found that Sewing Machine oil which is labeled "non-gumming" seems to work pretty well in my bathroom exhaust fan. It used to lock up about every six months, and it's been running about a year now with no problem after I used this apparently pretty high-qua...

Git 'em Dean! Git 'em good!
A couple of weeks ago (on this forum) I analogized all this stuff to pushing in on a balloon. You push in here and it comes out there.
And!
And!
And I'm glad you're pointing out the subsidy system! I was afraid to bring that up the last time around since I go...
