Is this allowed?

As per the talking dog (which was a great joke by the way. Thank You. Even folks who usually have to have jokes explained to them got it the first time and laughed out loud) there is a story from Zora Neal Hurston about the sharecropper in the Southern US who was working his mule really hard on a ho...

Re: Joke thread?

This is an old Spike Milligan joke:<p>One man says to the other "Who are you betting on in the Grand National (a premier horse race in the UK) ?"<p>"Andre Previn" says the other man.<p>"But Andre Previn is a conductor" says the first man.<p>"I know, but think of th...

Car battery change over.

I have a gas sipping, 2 wheel drive '91 Geo Tracker that has a computer module which is very expensive. About 10 years ago it went out and the cost for the part alone was about $800. The labour cost was minimal.<p>The present (~12.35V) at least 8 years old battery needs replacing but I don't want to...

Re: Stray 110 voltage

Dale Y, What you're saying is not to 'daisy chain' the GFI's neutrals. That makes sense.<p>I don't know why there isn't an extension cord or appliance cord in common use that doesn't have the neutral wire larger than the line wire. That would make sense or gauge the load according to the size of the...

Re: GFCI question

If the concern is safety or confusion over whether the outlet is grounded or not they do sell a GFCI'd breaker. I think an electrical supply house would be a better resource than Home Despot for that kind of thing, they are relatively expensive and someone told me a long time ago that breakers are o...

Bob Scott. Are you saying that neutral wires from GFIs should be dedicated to the breaker box's neutral strip?<p>[ September 01, 2004: Message edited by: perfectbite ]</p>

A watts question.

In researching watts I found one web page that refferred to watts as energy and another that referred to watts as power. Maybe on page 5 of section 7 subparagraph 3a. under Miscellaneous a distinction was given as to applications but I didn't read that far. <p>I have come across instantaneous watts,...

Re: OPNIONS WANTED sounds too good to be true

Back in the age of the dinosaurs I worked, very briefly, at IITRI (IIT Research Inst.) and was told that a research scientist employed there had invented and developed magnetic recording tape using IITRI's facilities. It was, of course, such a big hit, that they had to, although they really didn't h...

Re: CATs and Home Depot.

Thank you. It seems there are two separate categories of CATS. One for wiring, CAT III, CAT V and CAT Ve/VI and one for electrical testers CATs I through IV. No wonder I'm confused! It's the bloody jargon I tell ya!

Re: OPNIONS WANTED sounds too good to be true

Wayne. I am not so sure that the American way has the prerogative over a different way. <p>In the 17/1800s in Europe, including Britain and Scandinavia and Russia, if you, as an ordinary land worker, had, let's say, a patentable idea, you yourself couldn't patent it. The 'Lord' of the estate you liv...

CATs and Home Depot.

I know CAT V(5) is phone lines, Today at Home Depot I saw tools marked CAT III, in Home Depot!? What is with the CATs? How many CATs are there? <p>Gary Larson had a cartoon where the wagon train is circled and the Indians are firing flaming arrows at the wagons and one cowpoke says to the other &quo...

Re: Build to order (or swap)

It's called brainstorming John. What does that have to do with the price of tea in China or the cost of lobsters in Maine you ask???????? What if something gets built and it either doesn't do what it is supposed to do or doesn't work at all? Or someone gets a circuit they specified and, instead of g...

Re: Build to order (or swap)

Here's my 2 cents. NASA is always looking for space experiments worth doing. Lately, because of the grounding of the Space Shuttles, not much is going on with that but should resume and a group sponsored experiment involving the effects of zero-gravity would be interesting. It would certainly get a ...
