Re: Adding D/A converters, use SPI or I2C?

You're at the possible break even point. I2C devices have the device address hard wired into them. Some have one or two pins available to choose an address, but not all. You may need a separate pair of I/O pins just for a second I2C device, but with SPI you will need one per device in addition to th...

Re: Changing my religion- to linux

Hm. It was going pretty well for a while, but got stuck at 74% then configuring gconf2. It was there for over an hour before I shut it down and went to bed. I'll let you know if it goes well for the next attempt.

Changing my religion- to linux

I've been hemming and hawing for ages. I've heard how great it is, and now I'm giving it a shot. First I tried to install it alongside w*, but that came to a sticky end. I managed to revive the computer and copy all the precious data, and now I've let the installation take the whole hard drive. It's...

Out of era out of mind?

I'll try real hard not to rant too much. Just yesterday I went to get some floppies to make a boot disk from, the the clerk swiped the box across the magnetizer. I pointed at the warning label on the counter and he realized what he did, but sakes alive! That kind of carelessness on autopilot shows u...

Re: Liquidating My Electronics Hobby

If you have duplicate tools, you could group them together to get another hobbyist started. Maybe an assortment of components and a breadboard too to be the equivalent of a 300in1 kit. The tubes should definitely go to someone who knows what they are. You might try posting on Headwize or Diyaudio. I...

Re: Uploading/viewing movies on my camera

Thank you for your input reloadron. Yes, I get AVI files and 30FPS is the default setting in the camera. I can also select 24FPS. I had not considered that every variant on size and frame rate would use a different CODEC. The camera can take VGA or QVGA, so I suppose I will need to reformat any file...

Uploading/viewing movies on my camera

I have a Pentax Optio E60, it takes fair videos which I have no trouble transferring or watching on the camera. I want to put other movies into the camera to watch later, but the camera balks at this. I think it needs the format "just so". Does anybody here have any experience with this?

Backpack? Shield? LCDsupport platforms

Before I commit to another project that will probably go to the back burner after a couple weeks of misplaced enthusiasm, I would like to know if I'm repeating someone else's work. I want a platform for the old Nokia LCDs, PCD8544 based. I was inspired by the "LCD backpacks", but underwhelmed by the...

Re: USB flash missing files

Unknown brand and model, cheap item from ebay (China). Same results on all OS (different computers) I've plugged into. Not hidden files, I tried that first. Not system files, just mp3 and a few exe. Whole folders went empty while others were untouched, no onesy twosy missing files. I figured it migh...

USB flash missing files

I just got a 16G stick and put some stuff on it. Next time I looked, some files were missing, some folders were empty. The thing claims to have the right amount of space used for them to still be there, but some are just not showing up. Is there a utility I can use to search for lost files? Is the w...

Spam counteragent?

I'm getting pretty fed up with this stuff. It's polluting forums and filling my mailbox. The legal system doesn't have the time for this frivolous stuff, and the damage is done too fast and is to hard to track down the victims. I guess I'm asking two questions: Is there someone with the know how but...

Re: Those arc welder generators...

Somehow I don't think so. I don't think it is a DC permanent magnet motor being used- the commutator and brush lifespan would be an issue. I think it's a 3 or more phase generator (like the alternator in most automoblies) with the appropriate bridge rectifier. The brushes would last longer on slip r...

Re: Current limiting diodes...

Funny, this came up just a few weeks ago in another forum. It must be cyclic or something. I have a few PCBs (very small) that use 2 each of resistors, transistors and LEDs to do about the same thing. The LEDs needn't actually be that, but anything that fits in the same footprint and maintains a bia...

All 'phones sold in the last three years (maybe longer) have GPS. Most of them are deliberately crippled to keep the user from accessing it.

Discontinuous mode? That sounds like some SMPS application. This will be running AC- The bridge rectifier is downstream. I figured 600 ohms would be an acceptable limit as it is 10% of the desired impedance. As for triac control nothing is linear, just that incandescents have a usable adjustment ran...
