Strange phenomenon
This is a bit long but let me try to explain it like it was explained to me... A friend of mine which I don't talk to all that often called me and said "My body has turned into a capacitor". He explained that one day several months ago he had a tingling feeling that went from the base of h...

Re: kronos web site sucks!!!!
The CD should have a bunch of info on it. The manual and the tutorial programs would be the place to start.

Re: ac Arc welding hazards
When I was in the Navy, I remember getting shocked pretty good once. I was welding up a fan bracket to the ceiling. I was sitting on a big steel storage box that was welded to the deck of the ship. Since everything is steel on a Naval ship, you can hook your ground anywhere. My coveralls were drench...

Re: can't see pictures
I use mozilla thunderbird and when I get email with embedded pics in em, thunderbird says something like "To protect your privacy, thunderbird has blocked remote content in this message." Then, there is a button on the right side that says "Show Remote Content". Also, right under...

Re: Part identification
Hmmm. That could be - it would make sense at least. I am not exactly sure why it blew. But I removed the USB/card reader unit from the drive bay and the PCB trace for the 5v rail is burned. That leads me to believe that somehow one of my rugrats plugged in something wrong or something. I'll see what...

Part identification
I have an ASUS motherboard where the front panel USB ports are not working. The 5vdc rail shows only 1.99v on it. There is a burned part on the motherboard that is labeled P (on the first line) and 160 (on the second). It is black, surface mount and the markings on the board near it are either F6 or...

Thanks!

Re: Getting isolated 12V from 12V
I think the problem he said he is having is that the new dvd player is wired differently.
If you know that you need 12v at the line, then you can deliver that 12v through a relay - activate the relay by completing the circuit via the door switch grounding when the door opens.

Re: Getting isolated 12V from 12V
I see now. The door switch floats and when the door opens, the circuit path is completed and thus the light goes on.
I think a small relay would easiest (mechanical or otherwise - whatever is cheapest since the current is probably low).

Re: Anyone know if these work?
Awsome! But do they work correctly??? I think the idea is really cool but are they pretty accurate? If so I think I am gonna get one. It would be interesting to see the data.
Thanks!

My meter has the spinning disk, I believe. But instead of the little hands for the dial things, there is an LCD.
Thanks!

Re: Getting isolated 12V from 12V
Are you saying that the control line is normally 12v (with the light off) and when the door opens, the control line goes to GND level and the light comes on? If so, you should be able to use a transistor (FET?) as an inverter. http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/trancirc.htm Look for the section titled &quo...

Anyone know if these work?
I would think it might but there are a lot of different meters so I am not sure if it would work for every one of them.

Re: Nuts and Volts vol 1. No. 1
Even if the quality is kinda so-so, it would be better than nothing. As long as it is legible, I think people would buy it.
