Re: MOSFET

First, using PWM is not more efficient than using a linear control or even a series resistor. MrAL the more "efficient" I was referring to was the fact that the mosfet will consume less power in the form of heat when driven using PWM in a lamp dimming application, as was the original request. That'...

Re: MOSFET

I'm confused :???: Playing around with driving a power MOSFET to dim a lamp running off a 12 volt battery. You said lamp now you say it's not a lamp Can't use the PWM method, as the load is not a lamp and won't tolerate pulses. Now you said, The idea here is to sweep a resistive load across the pane...

Re: MOSFET

Pulse Width Modulation is the best way to use a mosfet as a dimmer. Runs more efficiently, use a 555 or micro to drive.

Re: color organ help...

Well glad to see you got it working and your welcome. After that last post in early January I experimented with a MSGEQ7 graphic display chip controlled by a Picaxe 20M2. It has the variable brightness with the beat of the music you are looking for but not the best band selectivity. Best part though...

If you place your face about 18 inches from the screen, grit your teeth and squint real hard it's readable. But seriously it's not that bad. I was able to read 95% of it.

Re: Another transformer question... ( trivia question)

Should be looked at as VA and not watts.
I think in this case since dac mentioned it was just a trivia question we can define it as a pure AC load with 100% efficiency.

Re: need help to find a 10K slide POT

The one I listed from Digikey is 71mm between the mounting holes if that helps.

Re: Another transformer question... ( trivia question)

120 volts X 1 amp = 120 watts
12.6 + 12.6 = 25.2 volts
120w / 25.2v = 4.76 amps

Re: Conversion of motor driven door bell chime to electronic

the 555 should have some sort of clock adjustment to control speed of the chimes
R5 is the speed adjustment.

Re: Conversion of motor driven door bell chime to electronic

A TLP222AF solid state relay will work for U1. From Digikey at only a dollar and eight cents. I don't see any current limiting resistors for the opto electronics. Since only one MOC3023 is on at a time a single 1.8K ( with a 12 volt supply) resistor from ground to the common connection of the LED ca...
