Technology Backfire?

I have a 2 week old 2019 Honda CRV Touring. It is a multi-system computer with four doors and windows. If the vehicle is parked for about 4 days the battery is dead flat, down to about 2 volts. After a jump start, the battery voltage is up and charging at 14.7V then almost every system reports troub...

Re: Reel for lowering a sensor

If you use an encoder disk with a reel, remember that the circumference of the layers change as the reel is turned so the measurement would have a growing inaccuracy. To overcome that use a free turning pulley with an encoder disk that has a wrap or two of line on it to make it turn properly as the ...

Re: Sysop Note: Logon Amnesia

Again, my experince is.... If I logon and do not click 'Remember Me' it makes me logon again at any entry screen. Most sites are smart enough to remember you until you log off and will remember you when you log back in if you did not clear the cookies. Sure acts like a bit of bad code or an incorrec...

Re: ok,, New Project time,,,

his has been said before, consider using a micro! With the sensor going to an A/D input use that value to scale from 0 to 100% as needed. Typical digital output is 0 to 255, for min/ max voltage input. Linearity of the sensor, is not important, just the digital value for the cardinal points desired....

Re: ok,, New Project time,,,

I think this was mentioned previously but.... Using an inexpensive micro, with an a A/D input, you would get a value, let's say from 0 to 255, representing the full range of the sensor's output. If the output is a voltage it may need to be scaled, or if it is a resistance, than a voltage divider may...

Re: Television Conundrum.......

Our local landfill and Goodwill say nada to CRT sets. I wouldn't even take off the back to scrounge for parts, but if it had old style 'bunny ears' antenna, I might salvage the chrome plated brass tubing for other uses. Nope, I would not even cut off the line cord! Gone... Don't want to pay a dispos...

Re: ok,, New Project time

Is it possible to disassemble the standard tank gauge and fit a potentiometer to the shaft, or make a dial that has either a reflective path or or slots that are proportional to the gauge indication. If so an output signal correlated to the gauge indication could be obtained. Yes, tampering with the...

Re: ok,, New Project time,,,

Use a micro, and A/D conversion with a look-up table to correlate the digital values to the tank contents. As a lower tech approach, chose several pot adjustable set points to get an LED output for any tank levels desired. As for an analog design, you should be able to use an op amp and send the low...

Re: Sysop Note: Logon Amnesia

Same issue again, logged on and needed to login again to preview and submit response. It looks like you have to click 'Remember Me' not only to be recognized at a new login, but also to avoid amnesia during the same session. That sure looks like a bug or a security option set too restrictive. FYI Di...

Re: Reel for lowering a sensor

Without exact information here are some things to consider: First, reels are often referred to as spools, so that may help in the search. What about a wire and cable reel, or one from film or recording tape. A hole saw and some acrylic or PVC sheet and rod can be an easy DIY spool to exactly fit you...

Hi Sean,
To make it harder to isolate, I've not had the problem in the last week or so.
Did you make any changes? None were made on this end.

Re: Odd Commercial Products.........

I well remember a mechanical TV channel changer. No not the ultrasonic one from Zenith, this was purely mechanical. It used a hand hand held box with a big knob, a long cable, like a bicycle brake cable and a clamp-on-the selector knob box for the TV. Yup, you turned the hand held knob, the cable co...

Firefox printing issue

Any ideas on this one? I've searched all over but no fix yet. I use a thermal label printer for shipping. If if I use that printer in Firefox, the label paper profile is 'stuck' and any other printer selected in Firefox thinks that the label stock is the paper profile. I can reset the printers in Fi...

So I guess I blew $10K in target practice many tears ago!
That guy could probably still list them on ebay as .... 'Previously New" :-)
