Re: Detecting a magnet... from a distance.

OK, Here's the deal Get an old CRT TV, place it near the magnet, use wireless linking of a video camera looking at the CRT screen to your remote location, and observe the color distortion caused by the magnet to confirm movement. Use a hall effect switch, and a siren on the roof. OR.. we could work ...

Title: A Sexual Encounter between a Capacitor and an Inductor One evening, with his charge at full capacity, Micro Farad decided to get a cute coil to discharge him. He went to the Magnet Bar to pick up a chip called Millie Amp. He caught her out back trying self induction; fortunately, she had not ...

Re: Hammond die cast al case, heat sink?

Without definate specs and a headache full of calculations, it boils down to....
Clean the paint off the mounting surface, mount whatever makes the heat with thermal transfer paste, and try it.
Or if your insist...go to http://celsiainc.com/heat-sink-size-calculator/

Re: Eagle download for "Build a Wall Wart Power Monitor"

It's probably a proprietary file type that the author thinks everyone has the capabiliy to use.It doesn't import intp Easy PC either.
They should always include a PDF or a DXF for those that want to use PNP!

Re: Nuts & Volts issues...

I shipped years of the tabloid sized N&V to another member years ago.
Do I miss them....except for the nostalgia value, not too much.

But I do treasure my first issue of Popular Electronics!

Re: LOREX LW2742 Wireless Monitor........

The short answer is.... With mass production, and cheap labor, in most cases, it is cheaper to build than to repair.

Re: File question

Hi, No compression or encryption. It is an older Maxtor network drive. All systems and software have no problem accessing the files. I feel it is because it is a network drive and maybe here once was a version to handle file sharing and locking. I am not tying to use multiple users, just to access t...

Re: File question

Hi Dale,
I'll try that tomorrow but I suspect it will be the same. The file associations work because clicking the file in the NAS file launches the data base program, then it crashes while loading.
Will try anyway and let you know.
Thanks!

File question

I am using a database that can open and read it's files from a USB drive or the same files copied to the local hard drive, but it will not read the same group of files from a NAS (network attached storage) drive. Windows explorer can access these, and all other files, on the NAS drive. and other sof...

From my first post......
"Possibly the breadboard connections are not perfect, or too small, check for voltage drop across the breadboard connections."

Re: LM 1084/338/317/etc... voltage drop at < 1A

FYI The common transformer does not regulate. The label voltage is at the labeled current. At a lower current it will be higher voltage. At higher current the voltage will go down until the VA rating of the transformer is exceeded then the smoke gets out. I would expect the secondary voltage to be h...

wOW! CeaSar I never considered that antenna polarity reversing idea. I did hook it up once to a TV rabbit ears antenna and it got crackly sound from 'The Jack Benny Program'. When I reversed the cabinet, guess what! It started talking sdrawkcab. An old county western ballad was on and,....his girlfr...

Re: LM 1084/338/317/etc... voltage drop at < 1A

If you described the diode connections as you have them connected, it appears they are wrong. Look at this: http://www.physics-and-radio-electronics.com/electronic-devices-and-circuits/rectifier/fullwaverectifier.html If your explanation was wrong and they are correctly connected, then it seems you ...

Re: really old 4700uF capacitors

I restored an old RCA Cathedral style radio years ago. I replaced all the capacitors with new ones.
When I fired it up, It played well but all I could get was modern music :???: .

(Don't be critical! At least it's another post...)
