Maybe they are busy answering telemarketer's calls, I know I sure am!

Re: To evaluate performance of used 18650 cells...

If you have enough cells, use, and time, it may be marginally worthwhile. If you are intent on doing this I wouldn't over think it. Consider them to be like dollar store batteries; Just charge it, if it works use it, if not pitch it in the recycle bin. Even if they are free, at the going price of ar...

Re: Mini-Rant

As an aside to all this, I have a rather collectable portable razor and blade sharpener. It's a metal case with a very simple single edge razor that uses a thick steel blade. When the blade dulls you put it into the case and pull back and forth a slide that strops both sides of the blade, making it ...

Re: Saga of a DC motor

Indeed that's a time honored troubleshooting shortcut. I repaired fire alarm systems and we had a ton of smoke detectors in one building, unfortunately all on one zone! The detector's alarm relay was supposed to latch when tripped and illuminate a light on the detector so it could be located. Somepl...

Saga of a DC motor

I do some industrial repairs and recently serviced a DC drive system with a German 180VDC variable speed 1Hp motor running a paper feeder in a bindery folding machine. The DC drive control had a blown fuse and resistance tests show that the motor armature was shorted showing around 0.2 ohms across t...

Since things are a bit slow, I thought that I would throw this out for whatever reason is acceptable! I have a Gillette Fusion razor. As a matter of fact, I have had several and all were gifts or promos. These are Gillette's wondrous battery motor driven conventional looking shaver with a vibrating ...

MCM / Newark / Element 14...

So now that the MCM we knew for years is now under the Newark / Farnell / Element 14 group, what's your opinion?

Overseas PCB fabrication

Looking down the road, I may need a quantity of PCB's fabricated. Maybe just bare boards, maybe stuffed, I'm not sure right now. Naturally, since the cost is low, looking offshore is an attractive option. If anyone has been down this road, sharing their experience would be a great help. I would thin...

Soldering tarnished terminals!

I just had the need to solder a 100+ Switchcraft A4M and A4F connectors. I got a great price on the large quantity I needed but it seems many of them may have been old new stock. The contacts, which I assume are silver plated were tarnished and the soldering was not going well. I used a Kester activ...

Re: web outlook mystery ( AKA Hotmail ? )

I always go to the web based mail server if it is available to see if the messages are being dropped from there. Also a great test is using these auto-responder sites. You send them an email, blank is fine but put something in the message subject box. Once received, they send back an acknowledgement...

Re: Telemecanique Modicon TSX Nano 07 PLC

As a follow up, the OEM support is abysmal! The tech guy maintains there is no battery, yet the factory specs show there is a battery backed up RAM, with expected 30 day life. He claims to 'change all the relays' in the units when they are rebuilt, but 'never saw any battery'. Original unit unavaila...

Re: Telemecanique Modicon TSX Nano 07 PLC

The vendor is supposed to be getting a 'refurb' unit together for the customer for $$$$, but I have seen several on ebay for +/- $200
So then, if that's the case would you expect that any of these PLC's of the same vintage will have the same issue?

Telemecanique Modicon TSX Nano 07 PLC

Anyone out there familiar with the Telemecanique Modicon TSX Nano 07 series of logic controllers? This PLC is installed in a bindery machine and a few weeks ago it failed, error LED on, no activity. Their factory tech support gave a diagnosis that it was 'un-powered for too long'...? and the program...

Re: Detecting a magnet... from a distance.

Externet, I have been following this thread, and added a few comments, but the question now is... Why do you want to measure this minuscule magnetic field? I would think that the earth's much larger magnetic influence, and the clutter all else around this magnet's minor field, would swamp it complet...
